‹  Super Bowl XLVI Super Bowl XLVIII  ›

The Super Bowl XLVII was the 47th Super Bowl , the final of the 2012 season of the National Football League (NFL) in American football . The game was on February 3, 2013 Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans ( Louisiana ), the home stadium of the New Orleans Saints discharged.

The champions of the American Football Conference (AFC), the Baltimore Ravens , won the Super Bowl XLVII 34:31 against the champions of the National Football Conference (NFC), the San Francisco 49ers . For Super Bowl MVP was quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, Joe Flacco , selected.

The way to the Super Bowl

Baltimore Ravens

The season of the AFC champions Baltimore Ravens began with a bereavement when their founder and owner Art Modell died a few days before the start of the season. Head Coach John Harbaugh's team dedicated the season to him, winning ten of their 16 season games. Defense injuries plagued them all season . So who fell linebacker Terrell Suggs (Achilles) and Ray Lewis ( Trizepsriss ) for a long time and cornerback Lardarius Webb from (cruciate ligament) even the whole season. Therefore, that was offense under Pro-Bowl - Running back Ray Rice (1,143 yards extra space, nine touchdowns ), Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach and quarterback Joe Flacco more required. Flacco threw passes for 3,817 yards of space (22 touchdowns, ten interceptions ) and used his wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith as well as tight end Dennis Pitta well. After the season, Guard Marshal Yanda , Defensive-Tackle Haloti Ngata , Safety Edward Reed and Returner Jacoby Jones were also elected to the Pro Bowl.

In the play-offs , the Indianapolis Colts were first defeated at home 24: 9, then won against the Denver Broncos away with 38:35 after extra time, with Flacco saving the Ravens a few seconds before the end with a 70-yard touchdown pass into extra time . In the AFC Championship Game , the New England Patriots were defeated away 28:13, with Flacco the respective quarterback duels against the higher rated Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos, four-time MVP ) and Tom Brady (New England Patriots, two-time MVP) with a total of eight Touchdowns and zero interceptions won. For the Ravens it was the second Super Bowl entry, before they had won the Super Bowl XXXV .

San Francisco 49ers

The NFC champions were Head Coach Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers . They won ten of their season games, lost five and drew once, so they won their division. The core was the good defense with seven players in the Pro Bowl (linebackers Patrick Willis , NaVorro Bowman , Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith , Safeties Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner , defensive tackle Justin Smith ), which allowed only 17.1 points per game (2nd place ). But also the offense around Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore and quarterback Colin Kaepernick (who replaced the injured Alex Smith in the middle of the season ) with wide receivers Michael Crabtree , Mario Manningham , and returnees Randy Moss and tight end Vernon Davis played solidly. From the offensive line , Joe Staley and Mike Iupati were elected to the Pro Bowl after the season. With Pro Bowl punter Andy Lee they had one of the best special teams players, and kicker David Akers set an NFL record in the first game of the season with a field goal from 63 yards. In the play-offs, the Green Bay Packers were defeated first 45:31, in the NFC Championship Game the Atlanta Falcons were defeated away 28:24. It was the sixth Super Bowl entry for the 49ers; they had all won the previous five.

Others

With John and Jim Harbaugh, two brothers contested a Super Bowl as head coaches for the first time , which is why the Super Bowl XLVII was also colloquially known as "Brother Bowl", "HarBowl" or "Harbaugh Bowl".

Before the postseason, the captain of the Ravens, Ray Lewis, had announced that he would end his career after the season. Lewis was the only remaining player for the Ravens from winning Super Bowl XXXV .

Match report

Jacoby Jones (No. 12) at the touchdown to make it 20: 3

The Ravens started with the first touchdown of the game when quarterback Joe Flacco completed a 13- yard pass to wide receiver Anquan Boldin . After the extra point from Justin Tucker , it was 7-0 for Baltimore. Shortly afterwards, San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to just before the end zone , but they had to be content with a field goal from kicker David Akers from 36 yards after a sack (BAL 7: SF 3). A promising drive of the 49ers was ended by a fumble by running back LaMichael James , so that Flacco started his own attack series and completed it with a 1-yard pass to the tight end Dennis Pitta (extra point Tucker, BAL 14: SF 3). After an interception from Baltimore's safety Edward Reed , the Ravens were again close to the end zone of the 49ers, but instead of kicker Justin Tucker shooting a field goal in the fourth down , head coach John Harbaugh decided to let him go. The Ravens took nine yards for a first down and 15 yards for a touchdown. But Tucker was pushed into the touch after eight yards and the offense of the 49ers got the football back as a turnover on the downs . After San Francisco had to punt again, Flacco completed a 56-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jacoby Jones , so that after Tucker's extra point it was 21: 3 for Baltimore. Shortly before the end of the first half, Kaepernick led the 49ers deep into half of the Ravens, but there was no more than one field goal by Akers (BAL 21: SF 6).

The second half was interrupted after a few moves by a 36-minute power failure that disabled most of the lighting.

The second half started spectacularly when Jacoby Jones ran the kickoff deep from his own end zone over 109 yards to the touchdown (extra point Tucker, BAL 28: SF 6). That return was a new Super Bowl record. Soon after, a power failure caused the floodlights to fail , which led to the game being interrupted for 36 minutes. Kaepernick then completed a 31-yard pass to wide receiver Michael Crabtree (Extrapunkt Akers, BAL 28: SF 13) and shortly afterwards running back Frank Gore ran into the end zone one more time (Extrapunkt Akers, BAL 28: SF 20). With a 32-yard field goal, Akers brought San Francisco closer to 28:23, before Tucker restored the old distance with a field goal from 19 yards (BAL 31: SF 23). Kaepernick then led a drive that he himself ran from 15 yards into the end zone (BAL 31: SF 29). Instead of an extra point, San Francisco chose a two-point conversion , which would have meant a tie if it had been successful: since Kaepernick's throw failed, Baltimore stayed two points ahead. After Tucker increased to 34:29 for the Ravens with another field goal, Kaepernick led the 49ers in the penultimate minute to just before the end zone. But when no touchdown was scored in the fourth down either, the Ravens got the ball back as a “turnover on downs”. They accepted a deliberate safety (BAL 34: SF 31) from punter Sam Koch twelve seconds before the end in order to let the playing time run down to four seconds through the play. The last chance of victory for the 49ers was to score directly on the return of the following free kick , which did not succeed.

Quarterback Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens was elected to the Super Bowl MVP .

entertainment

Before the game, sang Jennifer Hudson along with a children's chorus of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut the song America the Beautiful . This commemorated the rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School that had killed 20 students. The American national anthem was sung by Alicia Keys . The halftime show was Beyoncé Knowles , who first sang solo before Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined them: this was a one-time reunion for the band Destiny's Child .
