Beyoncé Knowles was born in 1981 in Houston , the first child of Xerox sales manager Mathew Knowles and Célestine Ann "Tina" Beyincé, who ran a hairdressing business . 2004–2005: Destiny's Child Comeback and Separation

Beyoncé received 20 Grammys during her solo career and three as a member of Destiny's Child. She has also received several BRIT Awards , MTV Europe Music Awards , MTV Video Music Awards and a NAACP Image Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People . Since 2007 she has been nominated for a total of three Golden Globes . In 2014 she received the "Michael Jackson Vanguard Award" for her life's work at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2011 Beyoncé was the first African-American artist and the second woman ever to receive the "Pop Songwriter of the Year Award", which is presented by ASCAP .
