José Álvaro Osorio Balvín (born May 7, 1985 in Medellín ), known as J Balvin , is a Colombian reggaeton singer. He is one of the most commercially successful interpreters of Latin Pop internationally .

biography

J Balvin signed a record deal with EMI Columbia in 2009 and entered Billboard's Tropical Songs charts in mid-2010 with his first single Ella me cautivó, not only in his home country but also in the USA . His debut album Real , however, was unsuccessful outside of Colombia. In 2011 he took part in the soundtrack of the film El negocio and landed two bigger hits in his homeland with Sin compromiso and En lo oscuro .

Two years later, its own version of was for the Colombian market Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke with Balvin published as a guest singer. Shortly afterwards, his second album La familia was released with the hit single Yo te lo dije . He established himself in the US Latin charts in addition to his home country; the song was awarded double platinum in the USA (category: Latin), another album song , Tranquila , achieved platinum status. With the Puerto Rican Farruko , he also released the single 6 AM in 2013 , for which they received the diamond award (10 times platinum).

J Balvin started with this song in Spain the following year and had his first hit. Greater success recorded working simultaneously published with the Romanian singer Inna . This is called Cola Song and became a top 10 hit, which was followed by a first placement in Switzerland and Germany. At the beginning of 2015 he landed his first number one hit in the US Latin charts with Ay vamos and his second diamond single. He was also awarded a Latin Grammy in the Mejor canción urbana category for its publication . The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the Fast & Furious 7 movie . This was surpassed in the same year by the song Ginza , with which he reached the official US single charts for the first time and advanced to number one in the Spanish charts. In May 2016, J Balvin released the song Bobo , which continued its success in Latin America. It reached number one in the US Latin singles charts and moved up to number 13 in the Spanish singles charts, whereupon it was awarded double platinum. Just a few days later he released Safari , a collaboration with US musician Pharrell Williams and BIA & Sky. The track was his second number one hit and reached four-time platinum status. Pierde los modal , one with Daddy Yankee incurred album track, also reached the Spanish single charts and also records status.

After he had great success in Central Europe at the beginning of 2017 with the song Hey Ma , composed in collaboration with Pitbull and ex- Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello , he landed a global summer hit candidate in August 2017. Alongside Despacito and Subeme La Radio , the song titled Mi gente was one of the most successful Spanish-language songs of the year and reached top 10 placements in over 25 countries. In addition to J Balvin, the French singer and producer Willy William also took part in the track.
