Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (born March 3, 1997 in Havana ) is a Cuban - American singer and songwriter . She became known as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony , which she left on December 18, 2016. Her debut album as a solo artist, Camila , peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 . The single Havana (2017) became a number one hit in several countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States .

Life

Camila Cabello was born in 1997 to a Cuban woman and a Mexican in Cojímar , a district of the Cuban capital Havana . She has a younger sister. After initially back with her family between the two home countries of the parents and hergereist she immigrated in 2003 with her mother through Mexico to the United States where they are in Miami in the US state of Florida settled. Her father was not able to follow until a year and a half later. In 2008, Cabello obtained US citizenship. In Miami, Cabello attended Palmetto High School, which she dropped out of ninth grade to focus on her music career. She completed her high school diploma in home schooling. Musically she was influenced by the singing of Celia Cruz and Alejandro Fernández .

In 2012, she applied in Greensboro for the second season of the talent show The X Factor . Initially retired as a single applicant in the “Bootcamp”, she was then brought together by Simon Cowell with four other candidates to form the girl group Fifth Harmony . This only took third place at the show, but stayed in the music business. With the 2013 single Miss Movin 'On and the subsequent EP Better Together , Fifth Harmony was able to place itself on the Billboard charts for the first time . In 2015 the debut album Reflection followed with the hit Worth It and in 2016 the album 7/27 with Work from Home , which were also chart successes.

On November 18, 2015, Camila Cabello released the single I Know What You Did Last Summer independently of the group on Island Records , which she sings in a duet with the Canadian pop singer Shawn Mendes . The song was placed at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 , number 41 on the UK charts and in the top 20 of Canada, the Netherlands and Norway. In the US, the single reached platinum status. The song was written during Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour when Cabello and Mendes were backstage writing the duet together. In 2016 she released her second single Bad Things with a collaboration with rapper Machine Gun Kelly . This song reached number four on the US charts.

On December 18, 2016, Fifth Harmony announced that Camila Cabello is leaving the group at her own request and that the other four members will continue.

In May 2017, Cabello released the single Crying in the Club as a pre-release of their announced solo album The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving . With Havana , another single from this album, Cabello made it into the top 10 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the USA for the first time. She reached number 1 in the UK. Her debut album was released on January 12, 2018 under the name Camila . In April 2018 Cabello started her first solo tour with the Never Be The Same Tour , on which she also performed in Europe. The tickets for the tour were sold out after a day.

On May 18, 2018, she released the single Sangria Wine with Pharrell Williams . In August a new version of the song Beautiful was released together with the original artist Bazzi , on October 9 the single Consequences .

At the end of October 2018, Cabello announced that they would work on a second album. Cabello was nominated for the 2019 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album . Cabello will star in a 2021 film adaptation of Cinderella , which will be produced by James Corden . In addition, Cabello will be involved in the production and work on the film music.

On June 25, 2019, she and Shawn Mendes released their second song Señorita , which became a number one hit in numerous countries. In May 2019, Camila separated from her boyfriend Matthew Hussey, with whom she had been in a relationship since early 2018. Cabello has been in a relationship with Shawn Mendes since summer 2019.

In November 2019 she announced that she would go on her second world tour, "The Romance Tour", from May to September 2020.

On December 6, 2019, she released her second album under the name Romance .
