Work from Home ( dt. "Work from home") is a song of the American girl group Fifth Harmony in collaboration with the American rapper Tyrone William Griffin, Jr., known by his stage name ign Ty Dolla $ . The song is the first single release from the second studio album 7/27 and was released on February 26, 2016. Work from Home reached the top 10 of the German single charts and is Fifth Harmony's most successful publication to date.

Work from Home is written by Joshua Coleman, Jude Demorest, Dallas Koehlke, Tyrone Griffin, Jr., Alexander Izquierdo and Brian Lee. Joey Arbagey, A&R manager of Fifth Harmony, played the song to the members, which made everyone enthusiastic about the song. Thereupon Work from Home of Coleman and Koehlke for Fifth Harmony's second studio album 7/27 produced. Originally Fifth Harmony wanted to call this song Work , due to the recently released single Work by singer Rihanna , the band decided to slightly change the title. After the band had announced the single two days in advance, the song premiered on February 26, 2016 on the radio program Elvis Duran and the Morning Show . On the same day the single and the accompanying music video were released.
Musical and content
Work from Home is a pop / R&B song with soul elements. The song, composed in four-four time , is written in F minor and has a tempo of 105 beats per minute . The chord progression is Fm-D ♭ -A ♭ , the vocal range extends from G 3 to F 5 . Work from Home is set up in the classic verse - chorus mode, a bridge or pre-chorus is played between the two . The members of Fifth Harmony each sing their own passages. The first verse is sung by Camila Cabello , followed by the bridge by Normani Hamilton and the refrain by Lauren Jauregui. The second verse is sung by Ally Hernandez, followed by the bridge by Dinah Hansen and the refrain by Lauren Jauregui again. The third verse is performed by Ty Dolla $ ign before Lauren and Camila sing the chorus together.
Lyrically is Work from Home from a relationship in which the man is often work, the woman but rather be at home, in the sexual sense, with him working want. This is made clear, for example, by the passage in the text “Let my body do the work”, but also by other ambiguities in the text.

Reviews
Work from Home received mostly positive reviews. Fiete Oberkalkofen from 1Live described the song as "reserved R'n'B with a lot of soul and, in keeping with the band name, with lots of good harmonies". Henry Einck from online music portal dance charts will Work from Home "high quality significantly" as Rihanna's work . As a final conclusion he stated that “Fifth Harmony once again prove their vocal talent with this single”. The American music magazine Idolator gave Work from Home an average of 6.8 out of 10 points. While Mike Wass is fascinated by the transformation of Fifth Harmony, Carl Williot criticizes the "lame refrain". Christopher Bohlsen from Renowned for Sound gave the song 2.5 out of 5 stars. He praised the "interesting sound effects in the verse" but criticized "that most parts [of the song] lacked distinction".
Music video
The music video for Work from Home , which was shot by Director X , was released at the same time as the single on February 26, 2016. It shows the members of the group on a construction site surrounded by half-naked construction workers. During the refrain, the members dance a choreography together , in the individual stanzas you can see the respective singing member doing certain work on the construction site. Currently (as of January 2019) the video has over 2 billion views on YouTube and over 741 million views on Vevo , which has given it the Vevo Certified Award for over 100 million views. The music video was nominated in the Best Collaboration category at the MTV Video Music Awards 2016 .
Commercial win
Work from Home achieved high chart placements worldwide and thus trumped Fifth Harmony's most commercially successful single Worth It to date . In the chart week of March 7, 2016, the song debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was therefore as good as the top ranking by Worth It in the United States in the first week . In the first week, Work from Home was sold there 80,000 times and streamed 10 million times. In the sixth week of the chart, the song reached number 9, making it Fifth Harmony's first top 10 hit in the United States. It is also the first top 10 hit by a girl group on the Billboard Hot 100 since When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls in 2008. The song reached number 4 as the highest position in the further course of the chart. For over 2,000,000 certificate units (sales and music streaming), Work from Home was awarded two platinum records by the Recording Industry Association of America . In the British single charts , the song rose to number 23 and reached the top 10 in the third week of the chart. Work from Home achieved its highest position with second place in the fifth week of the chart, which also topped the chart success of Worth It in Great Britain . To date, the song has sold over 400,000 in the country, earning Fifth Harmony a gold record from the British Phonographic Industry .
Work from Home entered the German single charts on March 11, 2016 at number 41. After the song had already surpassed Worth It's best position in the fourth week of the chart with position 11 , a week later with position 8, Fifth Harmony made it into the German top 10 for the first time. In the following week, the best position in these charts was achieved with position 7. In the Ö3 Austria Top 40 , the song also reached the top 10 in 9th place. Also in the Swiss charts , the top 10 was reached with position 7. In all three music markets, Work from Home is the most successful Fifth Harmony release to date.
The song achieved number one placement in the Netherlands and New Zealand , further top 10 placings were achieved in Australia (3rd place), Belgium (4th place in Flanders, 6th in Wallonia), Denmark (9th place), Norway (6th place) , Sweden (8th place) and Spain (5th place).
The song won the Best Collaboration and Song of Summer categories at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards .
