Official Charts Company
The Official Charts Company (formerly known as Chart Information Network and The Official UK Charts Company ) is an institution that publishes several official music charts in the United Kingdom , including album and single charts , download charts and genre-specific charts. The Official Charts Company is also the publisher of the Scottish album and single charts, which each list the best-selling sound carriers in Scotland . The OCC also made the Welsh charts out for some time. Since May 2012 the OCC has published the UK Streaming Charts, which are calculated from the number of streams from various providers such as Deezer , Spotify , Napster and We7 .
The Official Charts Company has published the official music charts in the United Kingdom since July 1, 1997, but under the name Chart Information Network . The oldest chart publications, however, date back to 1952. These were published by the New Musical Express . The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) are the clients for determining the chart lists .
The OCC supports its publications by collecting and combining all sales data from the retail sector by market researchers from Millward Brown . The Official Charts Company claims to cover more than 90 percent of the national music market (99 percent of single releases and 95 percent of all album releases). The OCC mainly evaluates dealers who sell more than 100 records per week in one week.
