Cervecería del Pacífico
Cervecería del Pacífico is a brewery in the Mexican city of Mazatlán in the state of Sinaloa and a major employer in the region.
It produces 15 million liters of beer a year and sponsors, among others, the local baseball club Venados de Mazatlán , which plays in the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico .
history
At the end of the 19th century there was a strong and influential German community in Mazatlán . From this the entrepreneurs and master brewers Germán Evers, Jorge Claussen and Emilio Philippy (according to other spellings also Philippi or Filippi) founded the Cervecería del Pacífico in March 1900 .
In addition, the founders Claussen and Philippy were committed to the victims of the bubonic plague that was rampant in Mazatlán at the time .
Claussen also took part in urban development and was primarily responsible for the expansion of the coastal roads in the west of the city that extended the Paseo Olas Altas . In his honor, the street running north of the same was named Paseo Claussen , while the south running Paseo del Centenario was named to celebrate the centenary of Mexican independence.
A street in the east of the city, which begins in the south on Calle 21 de Marzo and ends in the north on Avenida Juan Carrasco , bears the name of the other brewery founder, Germán Evers. To the east of the street, in the section between Melchor Ocampo and Miguel Hidalgo , is the site of the Cervecería del Pacífico , which he co-founded, with its entrance at its southeast corner on Calle Gabriel Leyva .
In addition, a roofed, but partly open sports hall on Avenida Zaragoza (also in the east of the city) bears his name: Cancha German Evers .
The brewery has been part of Grupo Modelo since 1954 and today produces the Pacífico and Corona Extra brands .
In the brewery there is a museum that is preferred by cruise tourists and offers a wonderful view of the city.
