The Paseo Claussen is a street in the Mexican port city of Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa . It is named after the German immigrant Jorge Claussen, who co-founded the local Cervecería del Pacífico in March 1900 and played a decisive role in the construction of the Paseos Claussen and del Centenario , which extended Paseo Olas Altas around ten years later .

Special structures

The street is home to some sculptures, such as the Monumento a la Mujer Mazatleca on its first section , symbolically dedicated to the beauty of the women of this city.

The so-called Clavadista is located on the Glorieta Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada , which will soon follow , from which the cliff divers of Mazatlán plunge into the sea as well as on the internationally famous Quebrada of Acapulco . On the opposite side of the Glorieta is the Escultura de la Reina de los Mares , the sculpture for the Queen of the Sea. The Glorieta is a few meters before the junction into the cross street Jacarandas and only a few meters behind it is the Monumento a la Continuidad de la vida . The monument for the continuity of life symbolizes the beginning and the end as well as the balance of life and is also intended to emphasize the respect for nature. It is represented by a line of dolphins designed by the artist Pedro Jiménez Corona.

Immediately in front of the cross street Jaboneria is the Casa del Marino , built in the 1940s, and the remains of the much older Fuerte 31 de Marzo . From the fort at the end of March 1864, the city of Mazatlán was defended against the French naval forces , which were successfully repulsed on March 31st . Since then, the fort has borne his name in memory of that heroic day. The Casa del Marino goes back to a resolution of 1944 and was built for the purpose of allowing the Mexican naval forces staying nearby to rest between combat missions. The building was inaugurated on June 1, 1946 by the then President Manuel Ávila Camacho . The building was a landmark of the city for many years, but there have recently been efforts to demolish the house.

Behind the headland on which the two aforementioned buildings are located, there is a sandy beach that extends to the next headland, on which the Laboratorio Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa is located, opposite the mouth of the Las Palmas street .

The Paseo Claussen ends behind the Parque Infantil Martiniano Carvajal and immediately in front of the Monumento als Pescador , which is located at the mouth of the cross street Manuel Gutiérrez Najera and behind which the promenade under the name Avenida del Mar continues.

history

At the end of the first decade of the 20th century, today's Paseo Claussen was expanded to Avenida Ignacio Zaragoza , under the direction of the German entrepreneur Jorge Claussen . In recognition of his achievement, the street completed in September 1910 on this first section of today's Paseo Claussen was named after him. In November 1954, work began on expanding Paseo Claussen to its present length up to Avenida del Mar and paving it .
