Game system

The eight teams play two separate halves of the season with 35 games in the first and 33 in the second half. For the placements in one half of the season there is a point system with 8 points for the first to 3 for the eighth. Based on these points, the six best teams qualify for the play-offs. From the 3 pairings of the first play-off round, the 3 winners and the best loser reach the semi-finals. Their winners determine the champion in the final at the end of January.

history

Estadio De Beisbol Héctor Espino , the stadium of the Naranjeros de Hermosillo

The Liga Mexicana del Pacífico was founded in 1945 in Hermosillo , Sonora , with four teams as the Liga de la Costa del Pacífico . The founding clubs were: Queliteros de Hermosillo , Venados de Mazatlán , Ostioneros de Guaymas and Tacuarineros de Culiacán .

From 1958 the league was called Liga Invernal de Sonora and consisted of the following four teams: Naranjeros de Hermosillo , Ostioneros de Guaymas , Rojos de Ciudad Obregón and Rieleros de Empalme .

In 1965 the league was renamed again to Liga Sonora-Sinaloa . The league was supplemented with two former teams: the Tomateros de Culiacán and the Venados de Mazatlán .

In 1970 the league got its current name: Liga Mexicana del Pacífico (LMP) and was able to send its respective master team to the newly organized series del Caribe every year .
