Ciudad Obregón is a city in the Mexican state of Sonora . Ciudad Obregón is the administrative center of the Municipio Cajeme and the seat of the Diocese of Ciudad Obregón .

Ciudad Obregón has around 300,000 inhabitants, making it the second largest city in the state after Hermosillo . An international airport ( IATA code CEN) is a few kilometers outside the city.

The city was founded in 1928 and is named after General Álvaro Obregón . Due to the geographical location in the middle of the fertile Yaqui Valley, the area is strongly characterized by agriculture.
