Spin was a music magazine published in the United States , which appeared on a monthly basis from 1985 to 2012. The founder and first editor of the title was Bob Guccione junior , the son of the penthouse founder Bob Guccione . The main focus of the magazine was on rock and pop music . After initial difficulties that almost led to its discontinuation in 1987, the paper developed into one of the main competitors of the US edition of Rolling Stone . In 1997, Spin was sold to the editors of Vibe magazine for $ 45 million . In 2006 the magazine was resold to the McEvoy Group LLC from San Francisco . The circulation of the monthly paper was at that time around 500,000 copies.

After another sale in 2012, the printed magazine was discontinued. Since then only the online version has existed.
