Diana Hyland
Diana Hyland (* 25. January 1936 in Cleveland Heights , Ohio as Diana Gentner ; † 27. March 1977 in Los Angeles ) was an American actress .
life and career
From 1955 on, Diana Hyland was best known as an actress in US television series, several of which were also shown on German television, including Dr. Kildare (1961), Twilight Zone (1964), On the Run (1964–1967), FBI (1967–1972), Peaton Place (1968–1969), Dr. med. Marcus Welby (1971–1975), alias Smith and Jones (1971), Smoking Colts (1973), Cannon (1975) and Mission in Manhattan (1976).
In 1959 she had a remarkable success on Broadway in Tennessee Williams ' Sweet Bird Youth .
In the field of cinema, she played Ruth Stafford Peale in One Man's Way in 1964 , and in 1966 she appeared in A Man Is Hunted alongside Marlon Brando , Jane Fonda and Robert Redford .
In May 1976, Hyland began a relationship with John Travolta , who was 18 years his junior , and with whom she starred in the TV movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble .
Diana Hyland died of breast cancer at the age of 41 . She left behind a four-year-old son from her marriage to Joseph Goodson in 1969 and divorced in 1975. She was posthumously honored with an Emmy for her role in The Boy in the Plastic Bubble , which Travolta received in her place.
