Gunsmoke (original title Gunsmoke ) is an American Western - TV Series , the 1955 to 1975 from the transmitter CBS aired. From 1967 she could be seen on German television.
characters
The protagonist was Matt Dillon , Marshal of Dodge City in Kansas around 1873 , played by James Arness . From the mid-1960s, the actor and country singer Ken Curtis joined as a sidekick in the role of Deputy Sheriff Festus Haggen . Gerd Duwner lent his voice to him in the German dubbed version . From 1962 to 1965, Burt Reynolds played the young farrier Quint Asper in 50 episodes .
Initially conceived as a radio show that was broadcast from 1952 to 1961, the material was then made into a television series. Instead of the radio announcer William Conrad , who was seen as too full-bodied, the actor James Arness was chosen to play Matt Dillon for the television version , at the suggestion of his friend John Wayne . In the years from 1955 to 1975 635 episodes were filmed, from 1966 in color. This makes Smoking Colts the longest-running western series of all time. After the series was completed, five feature films were made for television between 1987 and 1994.
In Germany, only 228 of a total of 635 episodes have been shown to date, mostly almost all color episodes that were broadcast in the USA from September 17, 1966. Only a few of the older black and white episodes have been broadcast to date. The German television beamed from 1967 to 1973 a total of 75 episodes, including ten in black and white. Another 70 first broadcasts followed from 1977 to 1983 on ZDF . The broadcaster Sat.1 showed a further 76 episodes from 1989 to 1991, the last seven episodes not being broadcast in 1997 on Kabel eins .
