Amanda Blake
Amanda Blake , actually Beverly Louise Neill (born February 20, 1929 in Buffalo , New York , † August 16, 1989 in Sacramento , California ), was an American actress .
Life
Amanda Blake was the only child of Jesse Neill and his wife Louise, b. Puckett. Her father worked in a bank and she was a telephone operator until she became an actress.
In addition to James Arness and Ken Curtis , she was one of the main characters in the western series Smoking Colts ( Gunsmoke ). There she played the saloon owner Kathleen Miss Kitty Russell. After she left the series, she took part in the series Love Boat and Hart , and later also in the Gunsmoke films.
She campaigned for animal rights and, despite being a heavy smoker, became a spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society after contracting some form of oral cancer. She married five times and most recently lived on a farm near Galt , California .
On August 16, 1989, at the age of 60, weakened by HIV infection, she died of cancer in Sacramento.
In 1997, the Amanda Blake Memorial Wildlife Refuge opened at Rancho Seco Park in Herald , California.
