Surname

The name of the hut is derived from the Krunkelbach, which rises north of the hut in a meadow depression and flows down the eastern slope to the Menzenschwander Alb .

history

As early as 1931, a cattle hut with a herder house and an inn was built at this point by the local community of Bernau-Dorf . When the five local communities of Bernau - Hof, Dorf, Innerlehen, Riggenbach and Außenental - were merged in 1934, the State Property Office took over the Krunkelbachhütte to repay the community's debt. The hut burned down on April 30, 1945 after French soldiers were set on fire because German soldiers were in the hut. The present hut was built in 1953. In 1968 - at the instigation of the then mayor Albert Schmidt - the hut was leased to the municipality of Bernau free of lease, but with the condition that all maintenance tasks were paid for. Already at that time she received a telephone connection, which is why the St. Blasien Forestry Office built a forest path to the hut in 1968, which was paved in the early 1970s. In 1956 the first electric pasture fence was installed. Electrification took place in 1969 and the water supply was improved in 1971 . The hut has been run by the Jünger family as a family business since 1993.

Weather station

On July 11, 2002, the meteorologist Jörg Kachelmann inaugurated his 417th weather station at the Krunkelbachhütte . Since October 2001 the measuring station sponsored by H-Strom has been sending its data via radio. Temperature , wind direction , wind speed , humidity , sunshine duration and amount of precipitation are measured there . These data and weather forecasts can be called up on the Internet at Meteomedia . Measurement data from the Krunkelbachhütte also appear in the weather report from public broadcasters such as ARD or the regional broadcaster Südwestrundfunk .

tourism

In summer, the Krunkelbachhütte is the destination of numerous hikes from Bernau, Menzenschwand and the Feldbergpass . It also serves as a base for climbing the Spießhorn and Herzogenhorn .

In winter, if there is enough snow, a 3.5-kilometer toboggan run is laid from the Krunkelbachhütte to Bernau.

Access

Numerous hiking trails lead to the Krunkelbachhütte , for example from Bernau-Dorf ( 916  m ) on the Hans-Thoma-Weg over the Scheibenfelsen ( 1052  m ), from Bernau-Hof on a more direct route, coming from the Herzogenhorn on the nature trail through the valley or from Menzenschwand over the Spießhorn. There is also a car access from Bernau-Dorf (4.2 km long), which is not always open to car traffic. The parking lot is below the hut. In winter, the hut owners offer a Pistenbully taxi over the snow-covered driveway.
