Jörg Kachelmann (2016)

Jörg Andreas Kachelmann (born July 15, 1958 in Lörrach ; resident in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss moderator , non-fiction author , journalist and entrepreneur specializing in meteorology .

life and career

Joerg Kachelmann was in Loerrach, the son of one of francs coming Inspector of the German Federal Railways and an East Prussian born. He spent his youth in the Swiss border town of Schaffhausen. He received Swiss citizenship between the ages of 18 and 20. Even as a child, he said he wanted to become a meteorologist and pursued weather monitoring and recording as a hobby. During the school and semester break he worked for various weather services . He studied geography , mathematics and physics at the University of Zurich as well as meteorology as his first minor, but dropped out in 1983 and completed a traineeship at the tabloid SonntagsBlick . He then worked for the local radio station Radio Munot in Schaffhausen . From there he moved to the science department of Swiss television . In 1988 he became deputy editor-in-chief of Schweizer Illustrierte .

According to his own statements, he faxed Südwestfunk weather forecasts for months without being asked until they were accepted. In 1989 Jörg Kachelmann bought an old farmhouse in Bächli in the canton of St. Gallen and converted it into a weather station . In 1991 he founded Meteomedia AG based in Gais in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden . Together with Katja Hösli Media Design AG, his first wife's company, which specializes in the visualization of weather data, the newspaper market was also opened up. In the meantime, in 1996, Kachelmann became program director of Wetter- und Reise-TV , which ceased operations after almost two years.

Kachelmann presented weather forecasts for ARD , initially in Südwest 3 and since 1994 also in the program Das Wetter im Erste for Das Erste as well as in various radio stations. Casual clothing and a somewhat fluffy style became his trademarks. He also hosted the show Beware Blöff in 1996 , hosted the talk show Riverboat from 1999 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2009 and tried the quiz show One will win in 1998 . From 2002 to 2008 he hosted his own talk show on MDR called Kachelmanns Spätausgabe .

Jörg Kachelmann (2008)

In 2001, Kachelmann became “Bootschafter” of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People . In 2008 he received the "Prize of the Deutsche Zipfel ". Kachelmann also promoted Danone , ISOVER and the New Social Market Economy initiative .

Jörg Kachelmann has been running the weather company WeatherOK, Inc. in Oklahoma with the website weather.us since 2005 .

In November 2010, during his legal proceedings, Kachelmann announced that he would no longer moderate on television and want to withdraw from the public for the time being. Since January 2011 he has been moderating weather forecasts for the local Swiss radio broadcaster Radio Basel . Since March 4, 2011, he has been presenting the weekend weather every Friday and Saturday on the Aschaffenburg private radio Primavera . From January 2012 onwards, Kachelmann presented the weather forecast on Fridays on the regional television broadcaster main.tv , which, like the private radio Primavera , is produced in the Aschaffenburg radio station . In February 2013, Kachelmann left the company he founded, Meteomedia , and since then has only worked as a freelance consultant for the company. On August 29, 2013 it was announced that Meteomedia was sold to the British weather service MeteoGroup .

Kachelmann operates a channel on the YouTube video platform . Since July 2011, he has been regularly presenting the upcoming weather for Germany, Switzerland and the surrounding area and explaining various climate situations.

Since May 2015, Kachelmann has been back on the Internet with its own weather platform, which can be used to call up measured values and weather reports. Since December of the same year, Kachelmann and the German Angelo D Alterio have been providing severe weather warnings for Switzerland and Germany. He is also present again on national television: Since 2017, Kachelmann has been presenting the holiday weather once a month on sonnenklar.TV .

Since January 2019, Kachelmann has again hosted the MDR talk show Riverboat - again together with Kim Fisher .

Personal

Kachelmann divorced his first wife Katja Hösli in the mid-1990s.

On March 9, 2011, he married the third marriage to the psychology student Miriam Kolbus (* 1986) from Leipzig , who was there when Kachelmann was arrested in Frankfurt Airport in March 2010 and who obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Konstanz . The couple has a son born in 2014 and lives in Switzerland. Miriam Kachelmann fought for his rehabilitation since the beginning of the affair and gave her husband lasting support in coping with and presenting his view of the process events; she also appeared in public.

Kachelmann has two other sons from his second marriage.

Controversy

German Weather Service

On February 26, 2002, hurricane Anna caused severe damage in northern Germany with top speeds of up to 180 km / h. After the German Weather Service (DWD) , unlike Kachelmann's company Meteomedia, did not give sufficient warning of the hurricane due to a communication breakdown and in particular the public media were heavily criticized for the missing warnings, the ARD decided to also use the weather forecasts in the future from Kachelmann's company Meteomedia. Since April 2002 some of the weather forecasts on ARD have been produced by Meteomedia, Kachelmann presented the weather in the first alternating with Claudia Kleinert , Sven Plöger and Alexander Lehmann shortly before the daily news and after the daily topics . Previously, only the Hessischer Rundfunk had produced the weather forecast on German public television using the data from the DWD.

In March 2006, the Cologne district court issued an injunction that forbade the DWD to claim that Kachelmann was warning of storms unnecessarily.

Legal proceedings

On March 20, 2010, Kachelmann was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman with whom he had had an intimate relationship. The Mannheim public prosecutor brought on 19 May 2010 at the Mannheim Regional Court indictment tile man on suspicion of very serious rape in coincidence with aggravated assault . In June an application for the waiver of the arrest warrant was rejected by the Mannheim District Court. A subsequent appeal against detention was the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe , however, held on 29 July 2010, as no urgent suspicion longer exists.

On the recommendation of Ralf Witte , who had recently been acquitted of the rape charge in a retrial, Kachelmann exchanged his defense attorney Reinhard Birkenstock for the Hamburg lawyer Johann Schwenn in November 2010 . On May 31, 2011, the first-instance proceedings before the Mannheim Regional Court ended with an acquittal . Against the acquittal, the prosecution and the laid plaintiff first revision one, but they withdrew on 7 October 2011th The acquittal of May 31, 2011 is now final .

On October 28, 2011, a verdict against Kachelmann's ex-girlfriend was confirmed, which prohibited her from repeating the allegations in public. Claudia D. appealed to the Cologne Higher Regional Court; so it initially failed on November 6, 2012, and before the Federal Court of Justice ; However, following a constitutional complaint, the Federal Constitutional Court overturned these judgments.

In June 2012, Kachelmann filed a lawsuit for damages against his former lover with the purpose of reimbursing the costs of 13,352.69 euros that had been incurred for appraisers in the process. On December 23, 2013, the 18th Civil Chamber of the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court dismissed the action in the first instance. Kachelmann laid appeal against the judgment in the Higher Regional Court Frankfurt. The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court ruled Kachelmann on September 28, 2016 and sentenced the woman to pay more than 7,000 euros. The Senate believed that she "deliberately, untruthfully accused him of rape." In March 2017, the Mannheim public prosecutor initiated an investigation against the woman because of the initial suspicion of deprivation of liberty , which was discontinued in September 2017 on the grounds that the suspicion was insufficient.

In mid-June 2014 it became known that Kachelmann had made claims for compensation for pain and suffering against media such as Bild ( Springer ) and Bunte ( Burda ), as these had destroyed his reputation and thus his professional basis through violations of personal rights. With the Burda publishing house, Kachelmann reached an out-of-court settlement on an unspecified amount. At the end of September 2015, Springer-Verlag was sentenced by the Cologne Regional Court to pay compensation for pain and suffering of 635,000 euros after the failure of settlement talks. In the second instance, this sum was reduced to 395,000 euros in July 2016. The Federal Court of Justice rejected a complaint from Springer in the final instance.

On October 26, 2017, a contribution by Fabienne Hurst and Robert Bongen to the television magazine Panorama revealed that, despite his clear acquittals in court, there are still prejudices against Kachelmann and that his life and that of his wife are very stressful.

Criticism of the judiciary and the media

In October 2012 Kachelmann appeared together with his wife Miriam Kachelmann on the ARD show Günther Jauch . Both commented on the behavior of the judiciary and the media in the course of the trial against him. The term “ victim subscription” , which Kachelmann used in the course of 2012, among others in Spiegel , was voted the unword of the year in Germany in 2013 . The Kachelmann couple later defended the formulation.

The book Law and Justice was published on October 8, 2012 . A fairy tale from the provinces that Kachelmann wrote with his wife. They work on remand and trial from their point of view. On October 10, 2012, Claudia D. obtained an injunction that the publisher was not allowed to further distribute the book as long as her full name was given there. On October 26, 2012, the Mannheim Regional Court overturned the injunction.

Kachelmann also criticized the media in other ways, for example on June 10, 2014, when he accused the WDR and its artistic director Tom Buhrow of being jointly responsible for the six deaths caused by the storm over North Rhine-Westphalia on June 9, 2014 , as they were his Consistently ignored warnings preceding hours. The WDR denied omissions; one had "continuously reported severe weather warnings and bad weather forecasts from 6 a.m.".

In September 2015, FAZ.net published a comment by FAZ editor Reinhard Müller following the judgment of the Cologne Regional Court . He wrote, among other things, that there is “something like a collective social cowardice in front of supposed guardians of virtue”; on the other hand no court would help. Müller raised the question of why television stations, business partners and customers do not resume working with an acquitted. Before the European Court of Human Rights , Kachelmann prevailed against the Bild newspaper in 2019 . The court prohibited Springer-Verlag from further publishing a photo taken in 2010 that shows him as a remand prisoner.

Artificial weather control

Kachelmann has positioned itself as an explicit opponent of chemtrail - conspiracy theory . In 2011, he described the supporters of the conspiracy theory in emails, YouTube videos and Twitter posts as "Nazis", "Crazy" and "Chemtraildeppen". In March 2012, the Berlin Regional Court rejected an injunction for an injunction; the court saw the testimony that supporters of the conspiracy theory were " neo-Nazis and madmen" covered by freedom of expression . He wrote the foreword for The Chemtrail Handbuch by Jörg Lorenz, which analyzes the chemtrail theory and the arguments of the proponents and explains the phenomena from a meteorological and aviation point of view.

Kachelmann is an avowed critic of hail protection through cloud vaccination: In his opinion, it is nonsensical to believe that a chemical spread from an airplane could influence a cloud formation that has the energy content of several atom bombs . His article in the Upper Bavarian Volksblatt , in which he wrote, among other things, that a “thundercloud would probably be more impressed if the money were to be sprinkled directly into it” sparked a debate in other media about the meaning of hail flying.
