history

MeteoGroup was founded in 1986 under the name MeteoConsult BV as one of the first private weather companies in Europe by Harry Otten , a well-known weather presenter on Dutch television.

In 1993, Meteo Consult founded the first company outside the Netherlands: A joint venture was set up in Berlin for the German market , which in 1998 was transferred to the wholly owned German subsidiary MC-Wetter. In the first few years, MC-Wetter concentrated on meteorological applications in the economic sector.

Meanwhile, Meteo Consult continued to conquer the European market: In 1996, the Dutch acquired a majority stake in the Belgian weather service Meteo Services. Two years later, the Berlin company MeteoGraphics, specializing in weather visualization systems, became part of Meteo Consult. MeteoGraphics and MC-Wetter merged in 2008 to form MeteoGroup Germany.

In May 2005 the majority of the shares in the parent company Meteo Consult BV were acquired by the PA Group. Since then, MeteoGroup España, MeteoGroup Polska, MeteoGroup Scandinavia based in Sweden, MeteoGroup France, MeteoGroup Italia and MeteoGroup USA have been founded. Another location in Ireland was added through the acquisition of Nowcasting International Limited. In July 2012, the first MeteoGroup office in Asia was founded, based in Singapore .

The Swiss Meteomedia founded by Jörg Kachelmann has also been part of MeteoGroup since 2013 . MeteoGroup now also has a location in Switzerland.

In 2014 the US financial investor General Atlantic took over MeteoGroup.

On September 24, 2018, MeteoGroup was taken over by the Swiss holding Thyssen-Bornemisza Group (TBG). The TBG portfolio already included "DTN, an independent provider of decision-making solutions for customers in agriculture, the oil and gas industry and other weather-dependent industries worldwide." On November 25, 2019, the brand changed to "MeteoGroup powered by DTN." ".
