Normani Kordei Hamilton (born May 31, 1996 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American singer . She was a member of the Fifth Harmony musical group .

Life

Normani grew up in New Orleans , Louisiana with her parents Andrea and Derrick Hamilton. She has two older half-sisters Ashlee and Arielle Hamilton. In 2005, her family moved to Houston , Texas after their home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina . At a young age, she took part in gymnastics and beauty contests. Hamilton was in a gospel choir and recorded her first song when she was 13. In 2012 she took part in the talent show The X Factor , where she made it to the second round. The show brought back Hamilton and four other girls, and they formed a group called Fifth Harmony . This group made it to the finals and they finished in third place. In October 2013, Fifth Harmonys EP Better Together was released . Together they published the songs Work from Home , Worth it and Reflection, among others . Normani took part in the 24th season of the dance show Dancing with the Stars and reached third place along with her partner. In 2018 she released the song Love lies with Khalid , which has been bought over a million times. In the same year Waves came out with 6lack , this song reached the 17th place on the US-American Billboard R&B and Hip Hop Digital Song Charts.
