Ricardo Valdez Valentine (born June 24, 1992 in Baltimore , Maryland ), better known under his pseudonym 6lack (also 6LACK ; pronounced as Black ) is an American rapper , singer and songwriter from Atlanta , Georgia . He made his breakthrough with his song Prblms , which was released in June 2016. In November of the same year he was voted one of ten best newcomers by Rolling Stone . He is currently under contract with Love Renaissance and Interscope Records .

Life

Ricardo Valdez Valentine was born on June 24, 1992 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1997 he moved to Atlanta with his parents.

In July 2011, 6lack signed a contract with an independent music label , which he did not explain. He then left Valdosta State University to devote himself fully to music. Over the next three years he published his music on SoundCloud and thus gained first attention. He later left his label due to discrepancies and signed with LoveRenaissance and Interscope Records.

On November 18, 2016, his debut album Free 6lack was released , which reached number 34 on the Billboard 200 .

6lack has a daughter named Syx Rose Valentine.
