Khalid
Khalid Robinson (born February 11, 1998 in Fort Stewart , Georgia ), known as Khalid , is an American singer and songwriter from El Paso , Texas . He is signed to Right Hand Music Group and RCA Records . He became known for the single location , which reached number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 .
Early life
Khalid spent his childhood in different locations as his mother, Linda Wolfe, was in the military. Wolfe worked as a supply technician for over ten years and eventually got the opportunity to join the US Army Band. Khalid's mother sacrificed the opportunity to pursue her own artistic dreams in order to raise Khalid. He spent his childhood in places like Fort Campbell , Fort Drum , New York City and six years in Heidelberg , Germany .
Career
In July 2016, Khalid reached number two on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists Chart . With the production of Syk Sense, Tunji Ige and Smash David, Location finally reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Mainstream R & B / Hip-Hop Airplay Charts in 2016 as well as the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot R & B Songs Chart on January 21, 2017. After the video premiered, it had six million views on YouTube within the first four months and was streamed over 35 million times on Spotify .
In January 2017, Alina Baraz's single Electric was released in collaboration with Khalid. His collaboration with Brasstracks, "Whirlwind", has been played over 300,000 times on SoundCloud .
According to Khalid, his mother is his greatest musical inspiration. He mentions Kendrick Lamar , A $ AP Rocky , Father John Misty , Frank Ocean , Grizzly Bear , Chance the Rapper , India.Arie and James Blake as other influences .
On March 3, 2017, he released his debut album American Teen , which reached platinum status in late October 2017.
Robinson sang Location for the first time live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on March 15, 2017, supported by The Roots .
