Her mother is a psychiatrist and her father owns several pubs in London.

Career

2004 to 2009: First experiences with music and a record deal

Rita Ora (2012)

Ora was discovered at the age of 14 by the Swedish music producer and songwriter Martin Terefe , who has worked with Jason Mraz , KT Tunstall , James Morrison and Mary J. Blige , among others . Ora says that Terefe approached her while performing in a park in London and then invited her to a recording studio. After she sang there, she signed a two-year production contract a little later. It was only at this point that she began to study music more closely and wrote her first songs. It was through Terefe that Ora first received attention in the music industry. At the end of 2008, Ora was recognized and invited by a manager of a record company during a concert in London . At the meeting the next day, where Ora presented her music, the employee got the impression that Ora could fit into the musical concept of Jay Brown , President of Roc Nation . In 2009, Ora was signed by the record label.

That same year, Ora made a guest appearance in the music video for the song Young Forever , a single from Jay-Z's eleventh studio album . In 2008 she appeared as a guest musician in the first single Where's Your Love from Craig David's Greatest Hits album. Although she was not officially listed as the singer of the song, she was seen in the accompanying music video.

2010 to 2013: Debut album Ora

After signing her first record deal with Roc Nation , Ora began recording her debut album. In 2010 she was also featured in Drake's music video for the single Over . In 2011, Ora repeatedly posted videos of herself on Roc Nation's website, showing them working in the recording studio. In February 2012, the song Hot Right Now was released, where Ora appeared as a guest musician. The title of the main artist DJ Fresh reached number one in the British charts after its release, in the USA the song did not enter the charts, while the single reached the top 40 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Ora was supported in the work on her debut album by Ester Dean , Drake , The-Dream , Stargate and Kanye West , among others , with Tinie Tempah being the only guest musician on her album.

On February 24, 2012, Ora and Jay-Z , the boss of her record label Roc Nation, were guests at the radio station Z100, where the song How We Do (Party) , her debut and lead single of her first album, premiered. Since the title took over the chorus from The Notorious BIG's Party & Bullshit , it is often mistakenly assumed that Ora's song also bears this name. In May the title RIP was released, a collaboration with Tinie Tempah . Both singles reached number 1 in the British charts. In the summer of 2012, Ora went on tour with Coldplay and DJ Fresh . Their debut album Ora was released on August 27, 2012 . Ora released the track Shine Ya Light as the fourth single . She also released the song Radioactive .
