Fifty Shades of Gray - Dangerous Love

Fifty Shades of Gray is an American adult film from 2015 . It was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson based on a script by Kelly Marcel . The fictional film is based on the first part of the same name, Secret Desires, of the novel trilogy Shades of Gray by the British author EL James . Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan played the leading roles . The film premiered on February 11, 2015 at the Berlin International Film Festival . The German theatrical release was on February 12, 2015, one day before the theatrical release in the USA.

action

When the 21-year-old literature student Anastasia Steele (Ana) interviewed the entrepreneur Christian Gray for the university newspaper, she met the attractive billionaire. At first she can't do anything with his arrogant and at the same time suggestive manner. The two meet more and more often over time. Among other things, Christian appears in the hardware store where Ana works alongside her studies. Assuming he wants to renovate, she sells him a rope, duct tape, and cable ties, among other things. After a photo session to illustrate the interview, he invites her to tea. He also appears as a speaker at Ana's graduation ceremony. Ana develops feelings for Christian and calls him drunk during their graduation party. He appears to rescue Ana from a friend's arms and lets her spend the night in his hotel bed.

Although Christian gives her to understand that he is not the ideal partner for her, an affair develops between the two and Anastasia slowly discovers Christian's dark secret, in which sex and passion as well as bonds and whips play a major role. She also learns that emotional poverty, neglect and violence traumatized him in his childhood . After signing a confidentiality agreement, she lets herself into his BDSM games more and more and ultimately hopes for a deeper relationship and more closeness. After Christian learns that she is still a virgin, he sleeps with her. Even when Christian goes on excursions and walks with her, instead of a romantic relationship, he wants a dom / sub relationship with a contract. Gradually, Christian notices, who first defends himself against his feelings, that he feels more for them than mere dominance. In order to understand him, Ana finally wants to know what the harshest punishment is. After he gave her six lashes in his room, which was specially set up for BDSM games, she was shocked and left Christian.

production

In March 2012, Universal Pictures and Focus Features secured the rights to the trilogy. Sam Taylor-Wood was hired as a director after Patty Jenkins , Bill Condon , Bennett Miller and Steven Soderbergh had already been discussed. Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay for the film. The budget for the film is estimated at approximately $ 40 million.

Casting

After the announcement of the realization of the film, names like Robert Pattinson , Kristen Stewart , Ian Somerhalder , Chace Crawford , Ryan Gosling and Stephen Amell circulated in the press. But the stars were not interested in a role. In May 2013 the rumor arose that Alex Pettyfer would play the male lead; he has already recorded test scenes.

On September 3, 2013, EL James announced the cast of the leading roles: Charlie Hunnam was announced for the role of Christian Gray and Dakota Johnson for the role of Anastasia Steele . For the role of Anastasia Steele also had Alicia Vikander , Imogen Poots , Elizabeth Olsen , Shailene Woodley and Felicity Jones on the shortlist.

In mid-October 2013, however, Hunnam withdrew from the project because there were overlaps with his television series Sons of Anarchy . Alexander Skarsgard , Jamie Dornan , Theo James , François Arnaud , Scott Eastwood , Luke Bracey and Billy Magnussen were favorites to replace Hunnam. On October 23, 2013, Dornan was awarded the male lead.

Also in October 2013, Jennifer Ehle got a role in the film. The singer Rita Ora received the role of Christian Grey's sister Mia Gray in December 2013 . Other roles went to Eloise Mumford , Marcia Gay Harden and Luke Grimes . In May 2014, Taylor-Wood announced that her husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, would play an as-yet-unknown role in the film.

Filming

Filming was originally scheduled to start in early November 2013. After Hunnam left, filming was postponed for a month; they began on December 1, 2013. Shooting took place in Gastown , the historic district of Vancouver , and in the Bentall 5 high-rise . This is where the Gray Enterprises scenes were made. The University of British Columbia served as the location for the Washington State University Vancouver and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for the Heathman Hotel. The North Shore Studios also shot. Production ended on February 21, 2014. Re-shoots took place in the week of October 13, 2014 with Dornan and Johnson in Vancouver.
