Kelly Marcel

Kelly Marcel (born January 10, 1974 in London ) is a British screenwriter and former actress .

Life

Kelly Marcel was born in London in 1974 as the daughter of director Terry Marcel . Her sister Rosie Marcel is also an actress.

She began her acting career in British film and television productions. She wasn't particularly fond of acting, however, so she gave it up and concentrated on writing scripts while working at a video store. Through her friend Tom Hardy , she got a job as a script doctor for the biopic Bronson .

Her first own script was bought by the BBC but not produced. She later worked on the British musical version of the film Debbie Does Dallas , which was shown at the Edinburgh Festival and received good reviews there. She was then signed by an agent and was able to sell her script for the television series Terra Nova to Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Television . Spielberg is the executive producer of the series. However, since Marcel was not satisfied with the end result of the series, she soon left the project and worked again in the video library.

Through the producer Allison Owen , she got the opportunity to write the script for the Disney film Saving Mr. Banks . For her work, she has been nominated for Best Screenplay at several awards including the BAFTAs and the Satellite Awards .

In 2013 she wrote the script for the erotic film Fifty Shades of Gray , based on the first part of the Shades of Gray novel trilogy .
