AACTA International Awards 2014

The 3rd presentation of the Australian AACTA International Awards , presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organization founded by the Australian Film Institute in August 2011 , took place on January 10, 2014 at Sunset Marquis Hotel held in Los Angeles . They honored the best films of 2013 outside Australia and are the counterpart to the regular AACTA Awards for Australian films that took place on January 28th and 30th, 2014. The award ceremony was hosted by the Australian actor Geoffrey Rush and was shown for the first time on January 12, 2014 on the Australian cable channel Arena .

Overview

The nominations were announced on December 14, 2013. The categories of Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, which were initially introduced out of competition in the previous year, were now among the regular awards. With seven nominations, the comedy American Hustle received the most mentions, followed by 12 Years a Slave with six. Blue Jasmine , Captain Phillips , Gravity (3 each), Dallas Buyers Club , The Great Gatsby and August in Osage County (2 each) also received multiple nominations .

12 Years a Slave , American Hustle and Gravity could each win two awards. The slave drama was able to assert itself with the best leading and supporting actor, the best supporting actress and the best script belonged to the comedy, while the space thriller was recognized for the best film and the best director. The only remaining award went to Cate Blanchett for best leading actress for Blue Jasmine .
