AACTA International Awards 2013

The 2nd presentation of the Australian AACTA International Awards , presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organization founded by the Australian Film Institute in August 2011 , took place on January 26, 2013 at Soho House in Los Angeles . They honored the best films of 2012 outside Australia and are the counterpart to the regular AACTA Awards for Australian films that took place on January 28th and 30th, 2013. The award was presented by Australian actor Russell Crowemoderated and shown in excerpts during the regular AACTA Awards at Network Ten .

Overview

The nominations were announced on January 8, 2013. Compared to the first award in 2012, two new categories ( Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress ) were introduced, but they were presented without competition. With five nominations, the comedy Silver Linings received the most mentions, followed by Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty with four each. Argo (3), Les Misérables , Life of Pi: Shipwreck with Tiger , The Master and The Sessions - When Words Touch (2 each) also received several nominations .

Silver Linings won three awards for best film, best director and best actress. Additionally, Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver were each recognized as Best Supporting Actor for their roles in Silver Linings Out of Competition. The remaining two awards went to Quentin Tarantino for his screenplay for Django Unchained and Daniel Day-Lewis as best actor for Lincoln .
