Ben Affleck (* 15. August 1972 in Berkeley , California as Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt ) is an American actor , film director , screenwriter , film producer and two-time Oscar award winner.

Life

Ben Affleck was born in California, but grew up in Cambridge , Massachusetts . He lived in Mexico for a year when he was 13, so he speaks Spanish. His family has Irish , Scottish , Hungarian , English , Swedish , French and German roots. His father is a social worker who has since separated from Affleck's mother, a teacher. As a child, he took on roles in television films , sometimes together with his brother Casey Affleck . At the age of nine he made his television debut in No Way Out Street .

Affleck lived in Cambridge near Matt Damon and became friends with him during that time. He also grew up in the neighborhood of Howard Zinn , who became a family friend. After graduating from high school, he and Damon moved to Los Angeles . Together they wrote the screenplay for Good Will Hunting , for which both received an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 1998 .

After Affleck had attracted attention at the beginning of his career with independent productions such as Dazed and Confused or the Kevin Smith films Mallrats , Dogma and Chasing Amy , he subsequently made both small, personal films such as Bounce - A Chance for Love or A night in New York , but also blockbusters like Armageddon - The Last Judgment , The Attack and Pearl Harbor . A number of his films also turned out to be commercial failures, such as Phantoms , Wild Christmas , Jersey Girl or Paycheck - Die Abrechnung . He was often accused of lacking talent and charisma . His German dubbing voice comes mainly from Peter Flechtner (Pearl Harbor, The attack) .

From 1998 to 2000 he was in a relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow and from 2002 to 2004 with Jennifer Lopez . Since June 29, 2005 he was married to actress Jennifer Garner . They have two daughters and one son. On June 30, 2015, the day after their tenth wedding anniversary, Affleck and Garner announced their intention to divorce. From 2017 to 2019 Affleck was in a relationship with the American film producer Lindsay Shookus.

In May 2013, Ben Affleck received an honorary doctorate from Brown University , Rhode Island . He was awarded the Doctor of Fine Arts title for his work as an actor, producer, screenwriter and director .

In 2016, Affleck starred in the role of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , the 2013 sequel to Man of Steel , which is the first encounter between Batman and Superman in a feature film. In April 2016 it was announced that Affleck would direct a new Batman film entitled The Batman . Before that he was seen in this role in the films Suicide Squad (2016) and Justice League (2017). However, in late January 2017, Affleck announced that he was stepping down from the post of director of The Batman .

In the context of the revelations about Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein , who is said to have sexually molested and raped women for decades, Affleck came under fire from Rose McGowan after he distanced himself from Weinstein in a Facebook statement and stated nothing of that To have known behavior. McGowan then accused him of lying and referred to a conversation on Twitter from 1997, in which she told Affleck about her own rape and he admitted to her that he was aware of Weinstein's behavior.
