Stolen Summer - The Last Summer (Original Title: Stolen Summer ) is a 2002 American drama directed by Pete Jones . Production was done by Matt Damon , Ben Affleck  and Chris Moore .

The film is set in Chicago in the 1970s . Eighteen-year-old Pete O'Malley, a devout Catholic boy, befriends the Jew Danny Jacobsen. Pete tries to convert the seriously ill Danny to Catholicism , believing this is the only way Danny can get to heaven. Pete himself fears that he will end up in hell if he does not manage to convert Danny. Pete finds someone to talk to in the friendly father of Danny, Rabbi Jacobsen.

The film is the first project in Project Greenlight , a film competition by Matt Damon  and Ben Affleck . More than 7,000 scripts were submitted in the first season of the competition. Participant Pete Jones won with his screenplay for Stolen Summer and as the winner received the funding from sponsor Miramax to have his film realized. The film was shot in the summer of 2001 in Jones' hometown of Chicago , where the film itself is set. Damon, Affleck and Chris Moore took care of production .

The film had a budget of around 1.8 million US dollars and failed to convince at the box office with box office earnings of around 130,000 US dollars.
