Matthew "Matt" Paige Damon (* 8. October 1970 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is an American actor and one with the Oscar and the Golden Globe excellent screenwriter . He became known for the films Good Will Hunting and Saving Private Ryan .

Childhood and youth

Matt Damon was born in 1970 to Kent Telfer Damon and his wife Nancy Carlsson Paige. He grew up in wealthy circumstances in Newton and Cambridge . His father was a stockbroker and his mother a professor of education at Lesley University in Boston . Damon has a brother named Kyle. His family has ancestors from England , Scotland , Sweden and Finland . Damon is a distant cousin of actors Casey and Ben Affleck . After his parents divorced, he moved to Cambridge with his brother and mother at the age of two. Damon lived there near Ben Affleck, who is one of his closest friends to this day and participated in many of his works. The American historian Howard Zinn , whose biography film You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train and an audio book for the history textbook A People's History of the United States Damon arranged, also lived in the immediate vicinity.

Damon attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School , where he played repeatedly in various theater groups, before graduating in 1988. From 1988 to 1992 Damon attended Harvard University , where he studied English . However, he never graduated from college. Instead, he continued to devote himself to acting, such as the television movie Rising Son and the drama The Outsider . While at Harvard, Damon did not take part in the drama company, but appeared in the play A ... My Name is Alice in one of three male roles normally played by women. When the feature film Geronimo - Eine Legende announced itself as a great success, Damon dropped out of his studies and moved to Los Angeles to further distinguish himself as an actor.

His childhood friend Ben Affleck had also made the leap to Hollywood . Together they wrote the screenplay for Good Will Hunting and for a long time tried unsuccessfully to sell it to a studio. They turned down some lucrative offers for this, as the potential buyers were not interested in starring both Damon and Affleck. It was only after Damon's leading role in Francis Ford Coppola's The Rainmaker that a buyer for the script was found in Miramax , and the studio secured the rights in 1997. In the film by Gus Van Sant , Robin Williams played one of the leading roles alongside Affleck and Damon . The film was a great success and brought the two authors u. a. an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award . In addition, Damon received an Oscar nomination for best leading role. In 1998 he had another huge hit with Steven Spielberg's anti-war film Saving Private Ryan . In 1999 he was again in front of the camera for Dogma by Kevin Smith with Ben Affleck.

Damon also starred in Martin Scorsese's 2006 thriller Departed alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson . The film won four Academy Awards in 2007, including a. for Best Picture of 2006. On July 25, 2007, Matt Damon was awarded the 2,343rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6801 Hollywood Blvd.). Damon was named "Sexiest Man Alive 2007" on November 15, 2007 by People magazine . For the film Inside Job by Charles H. Ferguson , an Oscar-winning documentary about the financial crisis that started in 2007 , Damon took on the central narration role that leads through the entire film.

In 2011 he starred in the film The Plan . For the female lead of the ballerina Elise , his stepsister Sarah Bradford was originally in conversation. But this immediately declined when she found out that her role included a sex scene with Damon. Instead, she took on the role of Laura , Elise's friend, in The Plan .

"Feud" with Jimmy Kimmel

Matt Damon and presenter Jimmy Kimmel have had a joking "feud" that has been smoldering for years. It started when Kimmel Damon appeared on his late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! tried to invite, which failed again and again. As a result, Kimmel regularly apologized as a running gag at the end of his show with Damon that he could unfortunately no longer perform because the airtime was unfortunately already over. In fact, Damon has made repeated appearances on the show since then with (mostly unsuccessful) attempts to finally appear as a guest on the show.

In 2013, Matt Damon hosted the show for an issue after he had previously "kidnapped" Kimmel. Damon brought Jimmy Kimmel, who was tied to an office chair with tape and his tie gagged, on stage and hosted the entire episode of the show, which he had renamed "Jimmy Kimmel Sucks!"

Nicole Kidman , Gary Oldman , Amy Adams , Reese Witherspoon , Demi Moore as well as Andy Garcia and Robin Williams appeared as guests on this show , who also participated in the joke and accused Kimmel of various (fictional) missteps. In addition, guest comedian Sarah Silverman , who shot the joke video "I'm fucking Matt Damon" with Matt Damon in 2008 while dating Jimmy Kimmel, allegedly talked about her relationship with Kimmel.
