In the mid- 1950s, the young working-class son David Greene received a scholarship to St. Mathews , an elite boarding school in New England , because of his athletic talent as a football player . Due to his sporting success he wins the attention of the pretty debutante Sally Wheeler. He hides the fact that he is Jewish because he is afraid of being marginalized. But his classmate Charlie, whose girlfriend he has taken, learns of his secret and wants revenge. After he has told all of his classmates, David is ridiculed, his roommate Chris Reece is the only one standing behind him. When a history exam turns out that a student has cheated, the professor threatens to fail the whole class if he does not reveal himself. The majority of the students blame David even though he is innocent. Eventually Charlie is exposed as the cheater and has to leave the school according to the code of honor .

The film was nominated for the Political Film Society Awards in the category "Human Rights" in 1993 because it is socially critical and deals with issues such as hostility towards Jews . It was also in 1993 for the price Artios the Casting Society of America nominated.
