Anthony Deane Rapp (born October 26, 1971 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actor . Rapp became known in 1996 in the role of Mark Cohen in the musical Rent , which he impersonated in the 2005 film .

life and career

Anthony Dean Rapp was born in Chicago to Mary Lee Baird and Douglas Rapp and grew up in Joliet . After his parents divorced, he grew up with his mother. His brother is the writer Adam Rapp . He attended Joliet West High School and started acting at the Interlochen Center for the Arts when he was young . He began studying at New York University and then dropped out in favor of an acting career in Hollywood .

Subsequently, Rapp played smaller roles in, among others, Confusion - Sommer der Ausflippten and Das Leben - A Six Pack in the nineties and after the turn of the millennium in A Beautiful Mind and Road Trip . He was introduced to a wider audience with the role of Lt. Paul Stamets in the science fiction series Star Trek: Discovery , which has aired since September 2017.

In 1997, in an interview with Oasis Magazine , Rapp announced that although he had had various relationships with women, he saw himself primarily as a homosexual man. In October 2017, Rapp reported in an interview with BuzzFeed that actor Kevin Spacey sexually molested him in 1986. Rapp was 14 at the time and Spacey was 26 years old. Kevin Spacey stated in the course of the allegations that although he no longer remembers the incident, he owed Rapp a "serious apology" should it actually have happened.
