occupation

Chaos City is an American sitcom that premiered on ABC from 1996 to 2002 . It ran for the first time in German-speaking countries from 1997 to 2002 on ProSieben . The series tells of everyday work in New York City Hall . It was created by Gary David Goldberg and Bill Lawrence .

action

The focal point of the series is Mike Flaherty, the deputy mayor of New York, right-hand man and spindoctor of his sometimes unworldly boss, Mayor Randall Winston. His subordinates are the clumsy press secretary Paul Lassiter, the sexist ladyboy Stuart, the homosexual minority commissioner Gordon (in the original: Carter), the shy backwoodsman James and Nikki, who is always on the lookout for the man for life.

In addition to the characters' private lives, day-to-day political affairs are the focus of action. It is often the case for everyone involved to eradicate a faux pas by the mayor or to belittle it.

At the end of the fourth season, Mike resigns from his position in order to clear the mayor of suspicions of a Mafia connection that he unwittingly entertained. Mike's successor is the charming heartthrob Charlie Crawford, who, like Mike before, gets a lot of headwind from the determined new campaign manager Caitlin, who competes with the mayor's favor.

backgrounds

During the first four seasons (1996-2000), Michael J. Fox played the role of Vice Mayor. However, his progressive Parkinson's disease forced him to drop out of the series early, despite the fact that Heather Locklear had been signed up the year before with the aim of reducing his workload. After retiring at the end of the fourth season, Fox had a few guest appearances in the first three episodes of season 6 and only then finally said goodbye to the series.

In addition to Fox, three actresses and one actor in leading roles left (Britton, Dillard, Esposito, Chaplin) at the end of the fourth season, while only one was added (Parrilla). Despite the signing of Charlie Sheen for the role of Vice Mayor, Chaos City steadily declined in audience favor, so that the series was canceled after the end of the sixth season in April 2002.

Episode list

Awards

Michael J. Fox won a total of three Golden Globe Awards (1997–1999) for “ Best Actor in a Series - Comedy or Musical ” for his portrayal of Vice Mayor Mike Flaherty . Even Charlie Sheen was the same price for this series figure - as the successor to Fox - win of 2002.

Trivia

  • In episode 99/100 (4th season), in which Mike Flaherty says goodbye, there are two connections to the series Familienbande (in the original: Family Ties ), in which Michael J. Fox played. On the one hand, his then serial father Michael Gross can be seen in a guest role and, on the other hand, the episode ends with Mike saying that he has just met the State Secretary of Ohio, Alex P. Keaton. Alex P. Keaton was the character that Fox impersonated in the series Family Ties. Conversely, the name Flaherty occurs in family ties in the episode The Forbidden Book, Part 2 .
  • Heather Locklear starred with Charlie Sheen in Money Talks (1997).
  • In the series Two and a Half Men , Heather Locklear has another appearance with Charlie Sheen in episode 21 Ask Your Brother of Season 1 .
  • In the episode The Hand of God (Original title Back to the Future IV: Judgment Day ) Christopher Lloyd has a guest appearance as Mike's former mentor. At the beginning of this episode, the two have an ambiguous dialogue about the past and the future - alluding to the film series Back to the Future , in which Fox and Lloyd played the main characters.
  • Michael J. Fox , Barry Bostwick , Michael Boatman , Richard Kind , Alexander Chaplin , Alan Ruck, and Heather Locklear all made one or more guest appearances on the television series Scrubs .
  • Barry Bostwick , Richard Kind , Michael Boatman, and Alan Ruck are the only actors to star on the series from beginning to end.
  • Numerous celebrities have made guest appearances on the series over the years. Heidi Klum in particular played himself as a friend of Michael Flaherty in seven episodes of the third season. Most of the guest actors only appeared in one or two scenes and were local New York celebrities, such as ex-Mayor Ed Koch or showmaster Regis Philbin .
  • Randall Winston, executive producer of several episodes, is the mayor's namesake.
