action

The petty criminal Franklin Hatchett messes up a report for the television reporter James Russell and, in revenge, is betrayed by him to the police and arrested. By chance he is chained to the unscrupulous Belgian diamond smuggler Raymond Villard while being transferred to the central prison. When the transport is ambushed to free Villard, Hatchett is the only one left alive and can also flee. However, he is wanted from now on as a suspected police murderer and turns to James Russell for help. He senses a big story and gives Franklin shelter, although he is about to get married.

Since Franklin has found out about a big deal with Raymond, both are targeted by Raymond, who wants to eliminate the two confidants.

When Hatchett learns that the diamonds worth $ 15 million are hidden in an old sports car that will soon be up for auction, he persuades the wealthy father of James' bride to buy the car as a "wedding present". Although a wild shootout ensues, Hatchett escapes with the purchased Jaguar XK 120 OTS and the Diamonds, while Russell is taken hostage by Villard and his gang.

The exchange takes place at night in the Olympic Stadium in Los Angeles , which Franklin has lured his creditors and police to join. There is a big showdown, with Franklin being actively supported by his childhood friend, the arms dealer Aaron. In the end, Russell is able to free himself and blow up the fleeing Raymond's helicopter, killing him.

At the wedding, best man Franklin gives his new friend James a ring with one of the retained diamonds.
