Rush Hour

Rush Hour 2 is a 2001 American action comedy directed by Brett Ratner , in which Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan reunite as Detective Carter and Inspector Lee. It is the continuation of Rush Hour .

action

When a bomb explodes in the US embassy in Hong Kong and kills two customs investigators who were on the trail of organized crime, Inspector Lee and his friend and colleague James Carter's relaxed vacation comes to an end. Lee uses a ruse to lure Carter into a gangster bar to investigate. When Carter finds out, he's pretty pissed off. Then a bomb explodes in Lee's office, causing James Carter to be believed dead. Meanwhile, he is exploring Hong Kong in his own way and has to deal with all kinds of difficulties. However, he finds out that the Chinese gang boss Ricky Tan and his "right hand man" Hu Li are responsible for the bombing. During a party on the yacht owned by real estate tycoon Steven Reign, Carter meets undercover agent Isabella Molina. She investigates for the Secret Service in the vicinity of Reign, who turns out to be Ricky Tan's partner. Tan asks Lee for help in escaping the Triads . He is apparently shot by Li shortly afterwards. Therefore, Carter and Lee decide to concentrate the investigation on Reign and arrive in Los Angeles . Here the two learn from Molina that Reign and the Triads were able to print millions of counterfeit money and want to launder it through a Reigns casino in Las Vegas . When the casino opens, Lee tries to confiscate the printing plates, but is overpowered by Li and her people and only barely saved from execution by Molina. However, this has to give up its camouflage and it comes to a showdown . Reign tries to escape with the printing plates, but is stabbed to death by Ricky Tan, who is still alive. Shortly afterwards, he also dies in a fight with Lee and the case is solved.

At the end of the film, Carter reveals that he was able to launder some of the counterfeit money by gambling and offers Lee a trip to New York (to see Isabella). After a moment's hesitation, he accepts.

criticism

“Action comedy based on a pattern successfully tested in the first part ('Rush Hour', 1998), to which hardly any new aspects are added. Still reasonably entertaining, especially thanks to the likeable leading actors. "

“As in the extremely successful Rush Hour (also directed by Brett Ratner), there is again a mighty and wonderfully choreographed beating for what it takes. Funny sayings, good timing and excellent action ensure lively entertainment despite the poor story. "

"" Rush Hour 2 "is a solidly made action buddy movie, but it is rarely really funny (...) and has little to offer in terms of its story. Rather, it fully relies on the sympathetic lead actor duo, who can no longer find their way back to their form from Part 1 or, in the case of Chris Tucker, even overshoots their goal and only annoys. "
