action

Master thief Max Burdett and his beautiful friend Lola Cirillo steal a rare diamond guarded by FBI agent Stanley P. Lloyd. Lloyd then loses his job, but knows who is behind the brazen theft. Max and Lola move to Paradise Island in the Bahamas . There they enjoy life to the fullest, although after a while Max feels a certain boredom. Lloyd shows up in Paradise Island six months later and tells Burdett that he will eventually be caught. Burdett is interested in the Napoleon diamond on display on board a cruise ship in port. Lloyd teams up with the attractive local cop Sophie and plans with her to catch Max red-handed. While working together, Lloyd falls in love with Sophie. Local gang boss Henri Moore wants to steal the diamond and asks Burdett to steal it for it. Burdett refuses, but assures Mooré that he will work out a break-in plan for him.

While the relationship between Max and Lola suffers from the fact that she wants to retire and Max doesn't, a kind of friendship develops between Lloyd and Max, as they spend a lot of time together. At the same time there is a spark between Lloyd and Sophie. When it turns out that Lloyd is no longer an agent, Sophie angrily ends the affair. Max has meanwhile delivered a break-in plan to Mooré. Lloyd and Max manage to soften the hearts of their wives and it is decided to undertake a night dive to a shipwreck.

During the joint dive of Max, Lola, Sophie and Stan, the master thief succeeds in a spectacular undertaking to separate himself from the group unnoticed, to steal the gemstone, to hide it and meanwhile to provide an alibi. At the same time, a criminal from Moore's gang was exposed because Max had provided him with a break-in plan that was doomed to failure. After the lack of the diamond is noticed, Mooré takes Lola hostage. But Stan and Sophie manage to shoot him and thus save Lola.

A short time later, Stan Lloyd reveals to the master thief that he had duped him and stole the diamond from him. Max realizes his defeat and manages to win his Lola back and successfully propose to her.

In the final scene, Stan, who has sold the diamond for a profit, is teased in his car by a remote control controlled by Max, which had already happened to him at the beginning of the film.

"A burglar film indulging in exotic locations, glamorous luxury and a photogenic cast, which is aware of its role models, including Hitchcock's ' Above the Rooftops of Nice ', but has nothing in common with them apart from the beautiful appearance."

" After the Sunset shows almost all of the stereotypes of the master thief films in a barely entertaining way and at the end it arrives exactly where it didn't want to be at the beginning."
