Christopher Shannon Penn (born October 10, 1965 in Los Angeles , † January 24, 2006 in Santa Monica ) was an American actor and the younger brother of the musician Michael Penn and the actor Sean Penn . His father, Leo Penn , who died in 1998 , worked as a director for television series.

Life

Penn began his acting career at the age of twelve and made his film debut in Charlie and the Talking Buzzard in 1979 . 1983 followed appearances in The Right Turn next to Tom Cruise and in Francis Ford Coppola's Rumble Fish . In 1984 he had a supporting role in the film Footloose alongside Kevin Bacon and John Lithgow . In 1986 he played in the thriller On a Short Distance for the first time on the side of his brother Sean and his mother, the actress Eileen Ryan . In the following years he often took on supporting roles. For his role in The Funeral , he was honored as Best Supporting Actor at the Venice International Film Festival in 1996.

He was best known for his role in Quentin Tarantino's feature film Reservoir Dogs as Nice Guy Eddie and in True Romance , in which he took on the character of Nicky Dimes. He played alongside Sandra Bullock in the movie Murder According to a Plan . Chris Penn also appeared in Robert Altman's Short Cuts . In 2004 he voiced the character Officer Eddie Pulaski for the computer game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas . His last film, The Darwin Awards , premiered on January 25, 2006 at the Sundance Film Festival . In addition to Penn, Joseph Fiennes , Juliette Lewis and Winona Ryder were among the cast.

Penn had a longstanding relationship with actress Steffiana De La Cruz . They separated in 1999. The actor was found dead on January 24, 2006 in his Santa Monica apartment . In an autopsy, no signs of violence or drug exposure could be found. Accordingly, death occurred from a natural cause. Penn suffered from an enlarged heart .
