John Arthur Lithgow (born October 19, 1945 in Rochester , New York ) is an American actor .

life and career

John Lithgows mother was an actress, his father a theater director and producer. In 1961 the family moved to Princeton , where the father became theater director. John Lithgow studied at Harvard University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art .

He starred in numerous films such as Footloose (1984 with Kevin Bacon ), Cliffhanger - Only the Strong Survive (1993 with Sylvester Stallone ) and The Files (1993 with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington ).

In Shrek , Lithgow lent his voice to Lord Farquaard . He then took roles in Nix as Orange County , The Life and Death of Peter Sellers , in which he Blake Edwards represented and in Kinsey - The Truth About Sex .
