action
Dr. Buckaroo Banzai is a physicist , neurosurgeon , adventurer, and musician (in his rock band the Hong Kong Cavaliers ) who fights to save the world from the evil red lectroids of Planet 10.
At the beginning of the film, Banzai participates as a test pilot in the testing of a turbine-powered automobile. By using the laser, Buckaroo managed to drive through a massive mountain, which caused quite a stir.
Dr. Emilio Lizardo, who is actually Lord John Whorfin from the 8th dimension, breaks out of an asylum under the impression of these events. His goal is to steal the alpha laser and use it to return to its home dimension. Whorfin, once the leader of the red lectroids of Planet 10, was relegated to the 8th dimension after his reign was ended by the good black lectroids. Due to a failed experiment by Dr. Lizardo managed to escape to earth in 1938. Whorfin is now teaming up with other 8th dimensional red lectroids who have started a front company called Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems.
Even the benevolent black lectroids have meanwhile arrived in orbit of Earth and warn Banzai of the danger from Whorfin. Banzai does not manage to avert the theft of the alpha laser in time. He and his team decide to avert the destruction of the earth by the insecure black lectroids, go to Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems and stop Whorfin and his people. This finally succeeds, and the red lectroids and Lord John Whorfin are defeated.

Reviews
“A shambles of science fiction adventures, comic strip fairy tales and parodies of hero and enemy images; funny and enigmatic in some details, but on the whole unbalanced and tiring. "
novel
Earl Mac Rauch's version of the novel is in the form of documents compiled by Reno Nevada. In addition to the background story of the film, the murder of Peggy Banzai by the followers of Lord Hanoi Xan and the death of Banzai's parents in an accident with a jet car are described.
continuation
The credits indicate a sequel , Buckaroo Banzai versus the World Crime League , but it never appeared. For a while, it was rumored that Big Trouble in Little China was originally planned as a sequel to Buckaroo Banzai. But this is not the truth.
