Richard Marks

Richard Marks (born November 10, 1943 in New York City - December 31, 2018 ) was an American film editor .

Life

In the late 1960s, Marks learned the craft of cutting as an assistant to Dede Allen . With her he edited films like Alice's Restaurant and Little Big Man . At her side he was responsible for Serpico 1973 as co-editor. Mark's first independent film editing was 1976 The Last Tycoon . Just four years later, he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Editing for his work on Apocalypse Now . Despite three other nominations for Time of Tenderness , News Fever - Broadcast News and It Couldn't Be Better , Marks never received an Oscar. During his career he worked for various directors such as Francis Ford Coppola , Nora Ephron and Mike Nichols . Marks also edited all of James L. Brooks' films.

Marks was married to Barbara Joan Fallick from January 15, 1967 until his death in 2018. They have a daughter together.

Richard Marks was a member of the American Cinema Editors . In 2013 he received their ACE Career Achievement Award .
