How Do You Know It's Love (Original Title: How Do You Know ) is an American romantic comedy from 2010 starring Reese Witherspoon , Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd . The film opened in German cinemas on January 20, 2011.
action
Lisa Jorgensen is the heart of the national softball women's team due to her positive and motivating attitude towards life , but the coach no longer wants to field her for the upcoming Olympic Games because her performance is insufficient. Her colleagues, especially the assistant coach Sally, are very upset and worried about her, but Lisa tries not to be shaken so easily. She even refuses the offered psychotherapy .
On the same day she goes on a blind date with George, which her friend Riva has been arranging for a long time. George reveals to Lisa that he has recently had major problems in his life - but Lisa forbids him to shut up because she no longer wants to talk about anything unpleasant. In fact, George, who works as a manager in a company, faces jail sentence for alleged stock fraud. Because of this, he was suspended by his father and does not know the exact reason for the ongoing investigation, as all employees are strictly prohibited from speaking. However, this unusual course of food turns out to be the only positive experience of his current life crisis, as Lisa actually distracted him briefly. However, she does not seem to intend to meet again.
Instead, she accepts the offer of baseball star Matty Reynolds to move in with him. He's actually a die-hard playboy who is more than generous in interpreting the rules of monogamy . Due to Lisa's uncomplicated and pragmatic nature, however, he feels more and more drawn to her and wants to try a steady relationship. That's why he's even ready to clear some drawers in his luxury apartment for you.
Since George's father also lives in Matty's house, George and Lisa meet again. This time the encounter is more relaxed and a friendly relationship develops between the two. When Matty falls into his old pattern and points out certain rules and restrictions to Lisa regarding his apartment, she quickly packs her things and seeks temporary shelter with George.
While Lisa thinks about giving her repentant boyfriend a second chance, George is already certain that she is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. His father's admission that he was responsible for the illegal transactions forced him to make a decision. Should he take the prison sentence instead of his already convicted father, or should he plan his own future instead? George decides to make this answer dependent on Lisa and see her at her birthday party to share his feelings with her. After a brief period of time, in which she vacillates between her feelings for Matty and George, she finally goes to George and drives him home.

criticism
The film received mixed to negative reviews. The Metascore service Rotten Tomatoes determined that the film made a positive impression on only 32 percent of the specialist audience.
“It cannot be denied that James L. Brooks is presenting a harmless comedy with How do you know that love is love , which by and large follows a tried and tested pattern - the film nevertheless offers entertaining and pleasant entertainment, especially also in the last scene, in which Brooks answers the eponymous question casually and charmingly. "
“With films like ' Nachrichtenfieber ' or ' Better it couldn't be ', Brooks has demonstrated his instinct for subtle characters walking the fine line between comedy and drama. Also How do you know that it is love tells in a tragicomic way about the emotional depths of life. This time, however, the characters remain astonishingly pale - also because the film doesn't seem to take their crises and conflicts very seriously. "
