Tony Shalhoub
Anthony Marcus "Tony" Shalhoub (born October 9, 1953 in Green Bay , Wisconsin ) is an American actor and producer . For his portrayal of Adrian Monk in the US television series Monk , he received three Emmys , two SAG awards and a Golden Globe .
life and career
Tony Shalhoub comes from a Lebanese - Maronite family. He began his acting career in the early 1990s after graduating from the American Repertory Company in Cambridge , Massachusetts after four years of acting at Yale .
Shalhoub's first major success was the high- flyer television series , in which he played the Italian taxi driver Antonio Scarpacci . The series ran on NBC until 1997 . Meanwhile, he starred in a number of films, including Big Night as an Italian Chef, for which he received the National Society of Film Critics' award for Best Supporting Role .
In 2001 he got his first leading role in the film 13 Ghosts , in which he plays a widowed family man who has to tame ghosts.
Shalhoub's breakthrough came in 2002 with the television series Monk , in which, in addition to his work as a producer, he played the title role of the neurotic police advisor Adrian Monk . For his performance he won three Emmys and a Golden Globe Award for best actor in a comedy series. He won another Emmy in 2019 for his supporting role as a Jewish family man in the comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel .
Shalhoub has been married to fellow actor Brooke Adams since 1992 and has adopted two children with her.
