Life or something like that is an American romantic comedy film from 2002 by Stephen Herek ( Rock Star, Mr. Holland's Opus ).

action

Lanie Kerrigan is happy because her life is perfect, at least she thinks. She lives in a great apartment, is a television reporter for a local Seattle station , is about to get a promotion, and is engaged to a very successful baseball player. But when she is told during an interview with the homeless self-proclaimed prophet Jack that she only has one week to live, her ideal world is turned upside down.

At first, Kerrigan panics and tries to defend himself against the idea. But when two more prophecies of the Prophet come true the next day, she has to come to terms with them and tries to change her life. The rest of the plot revolves around her efforts within this week to make up for her past private and professional failures and to correct priorities. However, she receives little support from her family and fiancé. Instead, surprisingly from her previous arch enemy, cameraman Pete, who hated her apparent superficiality. He shows the insecure Lanie what she had previously forgotten: to enjoy life as it comes, and to make the best of it.

Only her lifelong dream of appearing on national television seems a long way off. This is how she makes professional mistakes. She appears drunk in front of the camera when she is supposed to interview striking bus drivers, spontaneously sings (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones and transforms the demonstration into a rock concert. After numerous broadcasters reported on the incident, she believes that her career would be over. But thanks to the new popularity, she gets her dream job as a TV presenter in New York City . She conducts her first interview with the tough looking career journalist Deborah Connors, from whom she lures an emotional balance sheet of her life out by confronting Connors with the fact that she left her fiancé in favor of her career and remained alone. Instead of having an interview offered by the head of the station about further career, Lanie decides to return to Seattle. But on the street - on the day of her predicted death - she is critically injured by a stray bullet and ends up in a New York hospital, where Pete watches over her bed and confesses his love to her. She survived - so only the career-fixated Lanie "died". The "purified Lanie" starts a happy life in Seattle with a good balance between work and private life by working as a presenter for the local television station and enjoying her life together with Pete and his son.

criticism

Lexicon of International Films : Romantic comedy in the tradition of screwball comedy , which has lost some of its lightness and logic due to the inclusion of fantastic elements. Actually pale too.

Angelina Jolie was nominated for the 2003 anti-film award Golden Raspberry for her role in Life or something like that, but lost to Britney Spears ( Not a Girl - Crossroads ) and Madonna ( Swept Away ).
