action

Mandy Gilbert suffers from her authoritarian father, Tom, who constantly controls her. In view of her imminent move to UCSB , the architect has already designed a house in which father and daughter will live together. At school, the attractive girls laugh at the wearer of glasses because of her mediocre appearance. On the occasion of her 18th birthday, she wants to gain prestige and tries to get a hold of the adored swimmer Drew Patterson in the school swimming pool. However, she injured her head and fell unconscious into the pelvis. After Drew reanimated her, he told her that he was no longer interested in his girlfriend Lisa and made an appointment with Mandy in the park. When the previous outsider received a modern mobile phone with video function and contact lenses from her father for her birthday, her luck seemed perfect.

But her father, who has the same mobile phone, uses this to control and sees Mandy making out with Drew in the park. For this he punished his daughter with three days of house arrest and a ban on the telephone and the Internet. The curfew is very inconvenient for Mandy because Drew has just invited her to the hottest party of the year. She tells her father that she arranged to meet her friend Alexa to study for school. Then she gets her cell phone back and is allowed to leave the house. However, Tom announces that he will check by phone every half an hour whether Mandy is really with Alexa and her mother is looking after the girls.

With books in her hands and an old video recording of Alexa's mother, Mandy can fool Tom on the first control call. On the way to the party, however, she is shocked to find that her competitor Lisa, who is secretly tracking Mandy along with Blair and Kimberly, has destroyed her dress. In the department store Lisa tries to poison the allergic Mandy with macadamia nuts , but Alexa can stop the swelling in her face with an antidote. Mandy buys an expensive dress and deceives her father one more time by recreating Alexa's living room in the furniture department. In the parking lot, she then has to watch her car being towed away. To earn money and buy the car, Mandy and her friends take part in a music competition. The audience has to move in such a way that Mandy can tell her father that they are watching a DVD. After getting the car back, Mandy drives hands-free on another control call and nearly causes a serious car accident.

Meanwhile, Lisa continues to work on the conspiracy against Mandy. She buys the same dress, bribes the guard at the entrance to prevent the three girls from entering, and tells Tom that his daughter is expected at the party with alcohol. At the same time, Tom is annoyed by his nephew Peyton, whom his sister Marsha has given him to babysit. Marsha controls Tom the same way the father controls his daughter. When the little boy who previously destroyed the model of the new house disappears while playing hide-and-seek, Tom realizes how stressful it is to be constantly monitored and begins to think about his behavior towards Mandy.

Mandy and her friends finally manage to outsmart the guard and come to the party. When they see Lisa with Drew, Alexa tells Mandy about the legend according to which Drew dragged a girl into his tower room every year and deflowered there in the shower . However, Cayenne reminds them of what they have already survived today, and Mandy approaches Drew. When he invites her to his private room, she asks for a little patience. Mandy calls Tom and tells him the truth. Her father reacts understandingly, whereupon Mandy praises him as an excellent father. Then she goes up to Drew, who gets wet hands while flirting. When he goes into the bathroom and turns on the tap, Mandy thinks he can hear the shower and flees the house. Meanwhile, Alexa has secretly filmed how the drunken Lisa vomits at a séance ; the video caused a stir at the party.

At home, Mandy speaks to her father again and receives recognition for escaping Drew's alleged sexual assault, even though it ends in social suicide. Later she goes to the prom with her friends . There Drew is about to crown Lisa queen when he realizes his love for Mandy and puts the crown on her.

criticism

The critic from cinefacts.de sees the film as “right in line with today's girl’s films between the ages of eleven and fourteen” and suspects that Ashley Tisdale “will surely win over the hearts of her young audience with her charm”. For the reviewer of cinema.de, on the other hand, the film is "unimaginative 08/15 teenage fun" and an "uninspired quark in the wake of" High School Musical "".
