The 2007 Emmy Awards in the Primetime category took place on September 8-16, 2007 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles . The Emmy Awards were presented for the 59th time.
The television series Broken Trail , Prime Suspect: The Final Act and the series Die Sopranos were the most successful , each with three prizes. Broken Trail by director Walter Hill is set at the time of the Wild West in 1898 and was able to prevail in the categories of Best Miniseries , Best Leading Actor ( Robert Duvall ) and Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a TV Movie ( Thomas Haden Church ). Prime Suspect: The Final Act is the final episode of the award-winning British crime series starring police officer Jane Tennison (played by Helen Mirren ) and has won awards for leading actress, director and screenplay. The American television series The Sopranos , which is about the life of a fictional Italian-American mafia family in New Jersey, had already won 18 Emmys in the past and won awards for best drama series, direction and screenplay. The comedy series Ugly Betty and Rob Marshalls Tony Bennett: An American Classic were successful with two awards each . As the best comedy series, 30 Rock triumphed over the previous year's winner The Office, among others .
Moderator Ryan Seacrest hosted the evening . The show began with a computer animation of the two Family Guy characters Stewie and Brian, who performed a modified version of their FCC song. Live appearances took place during the show among others by Tony Bennett and Christina Aguilera , who both interpreted the piece "Steppin 'Out (With My Baby)" together . The success of the television multi-parter Roots was remembered , whose acting ensemble awarded the prize for the best miniseries to Broken Trail . Thirty years earlier, in 1977, the television drama had triumphed in the same category and portrayed the young black African Kunta Kinte on his way to slave service in the USA. The late television professionals who had died in recent months were also remembered in a short film contribution, including Jane Wyatt , Joseph Barbera , Roscoe Lee Browne , Yvonne De Carlo , Sidney Sheldon , Glenn Ford , Arthur Hill , Beverly Sills , Stan Daniels , Barbara McNair , Stuart Rosenberg , Steve Irwin , Joel Siegel , Peter Boyle , Charles Nelson Reilly , Jack Palance , Jane Wyman , Tom Poston , Luciano Pavarotti and Merv Griffin .
