Mark Snow (born August 26, 1946 in Brooklyn , New York City , NY ; actually Martin Fulterman ) is an American composer for film music and television series .

life and career

His father, Harry Fulterman, was a full-time drummer. His mother, Leah, was a kindergarten teacher and played the piano. Snow's musical talent was encouraged early on with piano, drum and oboe lessons. He studied for four years at the High School of Music & Art in New York City, where he became friends with Michael Kamen . After graduation, they attended the Juilliard elite music college . Then they founded the band New York Rock & Roll Ensemble in 1968 with Brian Corrigan (vocals, guitar), Clifton Nivison (guitar) and Dorian Rudnytsky (cello, bass guitar) , which recorded three studio albums for Atlantic Records from 1968 to 1970 , in where classical music was combined with rock music.

Five years later, Snow split from the band. His interest in film music was sparked by Jerry Goldsmith's score on Planet of the Apes . He then moved to Los Angeles with his wife Glynn in 1974. He was tutored on the electronic musical instrument Synclavier by the composer Sean Callery . Snow is best known today for his music for the TV series The X-Files - The Scary Cases of the FBI , whose offshoot Millennium - Fear Your Neighbor as Yourself and Ghost Whisperer - Voices from Beyond is known.

He has been married to Glynn Daly since 1967. She is a daughter of actor James Daly and the sister of actors Timothy and Tyne Daly . Glynn and Mark Snow have three daughters - Sarah, Megan and Nora.

Snow was nominated for seventeen Emmys between 1984 and 2009 and a Gemini Award in 1992 . In 1991 he and his wife, who wrote the lyrics, were nominated for an Emmy for The Lost Capone . He won from 1986 to 2007 more than twenty times the ASCAP Award ASCAP . In 2007 he was nominated for his score for the film Herzen ( Cœurs ) in the category Best Film Music with the French César .
