The Lone Gunmen (in the original: The Lone Gunmen ) is on the series The X-Files - The X Files -based and like this from Chris Carter produced television series .

action

The three main characters ( Bruce Harwood as John Fitzgerald Byers, Dean Haglund as Richard "Ringo" Langly and Tom Braidwood as Melvin Frohike) are officially newspaper editors who specialize in extraordinary phenomena. Through their research, they try to uncover various conspiracies or crimes. They can use their knowledge to support the FBI agent Fox Mulder in the X-Files series and receive information from him in return.

Emergence

Humor , which usually plays a minor role in the X-Files , is an essential element in this series. However, the concept could not prevail and only one season was shot, which was broadcast in the USA in 2001. In 2003 it was also shown on RTL in German-speaking countries. But since the series was designed for more seasons, one of the last X-Files episodes (Season 9, Episode 15: Heroes ) was used to close the storylines of this series that were still open.

A curiosity of the series is the pilot film . It is the plan of a US intelligence , a passenger plane by radio remote control into the World Trade Center to direct (WTC) in New York, a pretext for increasing defense spending to maintain and to stop foreign dictators to hang . This episode aired in the United States in early March 2001, half a year before the actual attack .

In the German version of this pilot, The Conspiracy , all comments related to the World Trade Center have been translated differently. There it is said that the conspirators intend to crash a Boeing 727 over the city, while the original version explicitly mentions the plan to steer it into a tower of the WTC. All scenes in which this project is addressed have either been cut or translated in such a way that it is not clear what the original is about. In addition, almost all of the pictures showing the World Trade Center have been cut out in the German version. In a short scene the World Trade Center can be seen in the silhouette of New York. A total of around five scenes were manipulated, which deal with the attack or in which you can see the plane flying towards one of the towers.

A DVD edition announced in Germany has been postponed several times because of Chris Carter's legal dispute with FOX . So far, The Lonely Shooters are only available in the original English version.
