Frank Spotnitz (born November 17, 1960 in Camp Zama , Zama , Japan ) is an American screenwriter , television producer and director as well as showrunner , who has worked on series such as the X-Files - The FBI's scary cases , Millennium - Fear your neighbor like yourself and the first season of The Man in the High Castle .

Life

Frank Spotnitz received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles in English Literature and a Master of Fine Arts in screenplay writing from the American Film Institute . His older brother Seth G. Spotnitz is a doctor and worked for many years as a medical advisor for Spotnitz 'scripts about the years and the X-Files - Beyond the Truth . Spotnitz is married and has four children. He lives in London .

Spotnitz appeared more frequently as a speaker on the subject of script development and series production. In 2012 he was a guest in Berlin as part of the European TV Drama Series Lab and in 2013 at a panel discussion on European TV series in the Writer's Room at the Munich Film Festival . In 2016, Spotnitz was a guest lecturer in the postgraduate training program for the development and production of series formats at the DFFB .

Career

Frank Spotnitz worked for many years as a journalist for United Press International , Associated Press and Entertainment Weekly and came in 1994 as a relatively inexperienced screenwriter (he only had one mention for the film Sunset After Dark ) for the X-Files series - The FBI's uncanny cases . His first collaboration can be found in the two-part episode Die Kolonie of the second season. Over time, he became a partner of the X-Files inventor Chris Carter , especially in writing the so-called mythology episodes, the episodes that run like a red thread through all seasons and the first movie The X-Files - The Film of the series .

After the X-Files , Spotnitz wrote several episodes of the Robbery Homicide Division series and was the creator of the short-lived series Night Stalker in 2005 . In 2008, he provided the story for three Mulder and Scully comic book adventures that were published by IDW Verlag. In 2011 he served as executive producer and screenwriter for the second season of the series Strike Back .

He also developed the agent series Hunted - Trust Nobody , in which Gillian Anderson was originally supposed to play the leading role and was also significantly involved in the development of the main character Sam. The series premiered in October 2012 on BBC One .

In 2013 he founded his production company Big Light, worked on a spin-off from Hunted and on the first season of The Man In The High Castle , the series adaptation of Philip K. Dick's dystopian novel The Oracle of the Mountains , which has been published by the Amazon Studios is produced.

He acted as showrunner for the third season of the European co-produced series Crossing Lines . Since 2016 he has worked as executive producer of the series The Medici - Rulers of Florence and Ransomware . The latter is produced in cooperation with RTL .
