Transporter: Die Serie (Original title: Transporter: The Series ) is an internationally co-produced action series based on the The Transporter films by Luc Besson . The series is produced by the channels HBO , HBO Canada , the French channel M6 and RTL , which with the exception of HBO also broadcast the series. The first broadcast took place on October 11, 2012 on the German broadcaster RTL. After two seasons, the series was officially canceled.
action
The series does not retell the story of the three The Transporter films, but builds on them.
Frank Martin, a former elite soldier, now lives on the Mediterranean coast of southern France. Officially, he leads a secluded, contemplative life, but in truth he earns his living as a driver (he prefers the term transporter ), who transports endangered people or explosive objects for dubious customers, which repeatedly puts him in great danger. He is supported in season 1 by Carla, who arranges his orders and provides him with information, and by the mechanic Dieter. The French inspector Tarconi knows about Frank's business, but has come to terms with the fact that he cannot convict him and has even developed a friendly relationship with him.
In season 2 he has Cat on the team. Instead of just organizing by phone like Carla, she is almost always present at the location of the worldwide events. Jules Faroux will be there from episode 19 as a mechanic and computer expert.
production
The pilot episode was realized by longtime Lost producer Stephen Williams . Other directors are Bruce McDonald ( Degrassi: The Next Generation , Queer as Folk ) and Andy Mikita ( Stargate Universe and Syfys Sanctuary - Guardians of the Creatures ). Chris Vance takes on the role of "Transporter" Frank Martin from Jason Statham , who portrayed the character in the Transporter films. The Hungarian actress Andrea Osvárt plays the lead female role in the series, a former CIA agent who helps Frank Martin organize his missions.
François Berléand continues his role of Inspector Tarconi from the film.
For the first season, 12 episodes were ordered, which were endowed with a budget of 43 million US dollars.
The first 5 episodes of the series were shown by RTL in the German-speaking broadcasting area from October 11, 2012 at 8:15 p.m., the next 5 from November 15, 2012 at 9:15 p.m. No broadcast date has been announced for the last two.
In early August 2013, the production of a second season was announced, in which Frank Spotnitz will act as the new showrunner for the series. In January 2014 it was announced that the second season was included in the program of the US cable broadcaster TNT , which had previously shown the first season. Filming for the new episodes began in February 2014.
