Stargate Universe is an American science fiction series that, along with Stargate - Kommando SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, is the third television series based on the 1994 movie Stargate . The series was commissioned by the US broadcaster Syfy and produced by MGM . The producers are Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper.

content

A group of soldiers, scientists, and civilians led by Dr. Nicholas Rush ( Robert Carlyle ) and Colonel Everett Young ( Louis Ferreira ) is led and stationed on a base on another planet, is attacked and overrun. During their escape they get on board the alien spaceship "Destiny". This was built a very long time ago by an alien, but human-like race, the Ancients . The Destiny is currently an unmanned research vessel that is still fulfilling an old programmed mission and exploring space on a set course. The people are stuck on the spaceship because the flight route cannot be changed due to the old programming. Your journey takes you to unexplored regions of space that lie outside the galaxies known from the previous series. You can only leave the spaceship during the programmed stopovers. You cannot return to Earth either through the Stargate or by ship. Communication with the earth is only possible using a special ancient technology.

The series ends after forty episodes with the start of Destiny on a three-year flight to the next galaxy. For this purpose, the entire crew of the Destiny, with the exception of Eli, go into stasis capsules, as the last capsule is not functional and could be repaired by Eli. You can see Eli looking into the stars and the series ends with a cliffhanger .

Cancellation of the series

Due to the poor audience ratings, Syfy canceled the series on December 16, 2010; the remaining episodes were broadcast in spring 2011. The decision to cancel was made at such short notice that even the actors only learned about it via Twitter and Facebook, and they were surprised at the station's decision.

main characters

Nicholas Rush

Dr. Nicholas Rush is the chief scientist on the Destiny. After his wife Gloria died of cancer, he became emotionally cold. On the Destiny he trusts no one, especially Colonel Young, and therefore initially kept secret that he cracked the master code of the Destiny, discovered the bridge and the destination of the Destiny mission. Between him and Dr. Ammanda Perry could have had a romance if the Lucian Simeon hadn't killed Ammanda and Ginn, who exchanged bodies together.

Everett Young

Colonel Everett Young is in command of Destiny because of his position as the highest military officer. The marriage with his wife Emiliy fell apart because he had an affair with Tamara Johansen, who was even expecting a child from him. Young and Rush constantly clash, which eventually leads to Everett leaving Rush on an alien planet. Ultimately, however, both work together.

Eli Wallace

Eli Wallace solved the online game Prometheus, which was programmed by Rush, and was therefore recruited for the Icarus project. Eli's mother is a nurse but contracted HIV when she stabbed a needle while sedating a junkie. Eli's father couldn't handle it and left his family when Eli was 14 years old. With Eli's help, Rush was able to decipher the ninth Stargate chevron and dial Destiny, where the crew is now stuck. Eli is only friends with Chloe, but also harbored deeper feelings for her until he meets the Lucian Ginn. However, Ginn is later murdered by the Lucian Simeon.

Matthew Scott

Lt. Matthew Scott is the only pilot on the Destiny. He begins a relationship with Chloe Armstrong on Destiny after having a brief affair with Vanessa James. During a visit with the communication stones on earth, he learns that he has a son. Matt had to grow up without a father.

Chloe Armstrong

Chloe Armstrong is the daughter of Alan Armstrong, the California Senator . She had to watch on the Destiny how her father sacrificed himself for the crew in order to close the broken shuttle, through which oxygen escaped from the Destiny. Matthew Scott helped her cope with it and the two fell in love. Eli Wallace becomes her best friend on Destiny. After Chloe was kidnapped by aliens but freed again, she slowly began to transform into one of them. However, the transformation was reversed by the aliens. However, Chloe has retained her brilliant math skills.

Tamara Johansen

Lt. Tamara Johansen , known as TJ, is the only paramedic on the Destiny. She had an affair with Young and became pregnant from him. However, she lost her child in the attack by the Lucian Alliance on the Destiny. TJ later developed ALS .

Ronald Greer

Sergeant Ronald Greer is a very spirited corporal on the Destiny who befriended Scott. In his childhood he suffered greatly from his abusive father. On the Destiny, he has a secret relationship with Lisa Park.

Camile Wray

Camile Wray worked at the IOA before stranding on Destiny. She has a lesbian relationship with a woman named Sharon. Because of her position with the IOA, she also enjoys a certain authority on Destiny.

David Telford

Lt. Colonel David Telford was originally in command of the Icarus Base. When the base was attacked and the crew fled through the Stargate to the Destiny, he defended the base with an F 302, which is why he did not end up on the Destiny. But he often visited them with the communication stones, whereby Young learned that David was visiting Emiliy. Young hit David because of it. Through the communication stones, Rush found out that Telford was a spy for the Lucian Alliance. Rush and David exchanged bodies and Young suffocated David and then revived him. The brainwashing could thus be reversed. Rush came back to the Destiny in David's body along with the Lucian Alliance. David successfully defended the Destiny together with the crew, but is now stuck on the ship. When the earth was selected inside a star, Telford was the only one to come back to earth.

Supporting characters

Adam Brody

Adam Brody is a member of Rush's research team. He has the distillery built on the Destiny.

Dale Volker

Dr. Like Brody, Dale Volker is a member of Rush's research team. Dale is secretly in love with Lisa Park. When Volkers kidneys failed, Greer donated one of his two kidneys and saved his life.

Lisa Park

Lisa Park is also a member of Rush's research team. She has a secret relationship with Greer. In an accident on the Destiny, she loses her sight.

Vanessa James

Lt. Vanessa James had an affair with Lt. Scott at Icarus Base before stranding on Destiny.

Hunter Riley

Sergeant Hunter Riley was responsible for dialing the Stargate on Icarus Base and on Destiny. When the shuttle crashed on a mission, Riley was critically injured and could not be recovered. Colonel Young suffocated him to keep him from dying in pain.

Varro

Varro was a member of the Lucian Alliance army that raided Destiny. After the Destiny crew successfully defended themselves against the Lucians, he was one of the prisoners. However, he did everything to prove his loyalty to the people of the earth, which he finally succeeded. He made friends with TJ on the Destiny. His wife died in a storm.

Jeremy Franklin

Dr. Jeremy Franklin was a member of Rush's research team. Against all instructions, he sat in the interface control chair, which caused him severe catatonia . When the Destiny was attacked by enemy aliens, Rush and Young asked Dr. Franklin to sit down in the chair again as his brain has adapted to the chair. After the attack, Franklin disappeared without a trace. Rush later discovered that his consciousness had been loaded into Destiny's memory.
