For the 2003/04 season he moved as a C-youth in the youth department of Borussia Dortmund , in which he was active up to the A-youth (U-19). In the Dortmund A-Jugend he scored 21 goals in 13 games as a midfielder.

Hamburger SV

In the summer of 2009, Hamburger SV Arslan signed. He signed a professional contract with a term of four years until June 30, 2013, which was extended to 2015 during the summer break of 2012. Initially, Arslan was part of the second team (U23) trained by Rodolfo Cardoso in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . Since there were many injuries in the first team, he made his debut under coach Bruno Labbadia on October 17, 2009 (9th matchday) in a 0-0 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Due to an injury, Arslan had to be replaced by Tunay Torun in the 39th minute . Four more missions followed by the end of the first half of the season. As a result, further injuries stopped him. In addition, he was increasingly used in the second team in the second half of the season. In the second half of the season, Arslan only made one more appearance in the Bundesliga. On April 25, 2010 (32nd matchday) he was substituted on for Jonathan Pitroipa in the 56th minute of the 5-1 defeat at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In the 89th minute he saw the red card after a foul against Tobias Weis from Hoffenheim .

Loan to Aachen

For the 2010/11 season Arslan switched to Alemannia Aachen for a year on loan , for which he made his debut in the starting line-up on August 26, 2010 under coach Peter Hyballa in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin and then quickly developed into a regular player. He scored six goals in 31 second division appearances. There were also four appearances in the DFB Cup .

Return to Hamburg

For the 2011/12 season Arslan returned to Hamburger SV. In a test match at the training camp against VfL Wolfsburg , he injured himself so badly after a duel with Ashkan Dejagah that he could not be used again in the second team until September 25, 2011 (6th matchday). Another injury put him out of action until the end of the first half of the season. In the winter training camp, Arslan was able to train with the team for a longer period of time. He made his season debut in the Bundesliga on February 18, 2012 when he came on for Jacopo Sala in the 72nd minute of the game against SV Werder Bremen . For his performance, Arslan received a positive review from his trainer Thorsten Fink . On the next match day (February 24, 2012) he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 1-1 draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach . In the Bundesliga season 2012/13 Arslan finally rose to the regular strength alongside the Croatian international Milan Badelj in the double-six position at HSV. After Rafael van der Vaart was pulled back into defensive midfield under Josef Zinnbauer in the 2014/15 season , Arslan came to less and less time.

In the 2015/16 season Arslan was Turkish champion with Beşiktaş .

On January 31, 2019, Arslan moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for a transfer fee of 3.2 million euros within the Süper Lig . He made his debut the next day when he came on as a substitute for Yassine Benzia in the 64th minute in a 2-0 win over Göztepe Izmir on February 1, 2019 .

National team

Since Arslan has both German and Turkish citizenship, he could choose between the national teams of both countries. After initially opting for the Turkish national youth team, he revised this in December 2010 and would like to play for the German national team in the future. In November 2012, Arslan was nominated for the first time for the German U-21 national team , with which he met Turkey (1: 1).
