Zanka (born April 23, 1990 in Copenhagen ), real name Mathias Jattah-Njie Jørgensen , is a Danish football player . The defender has been under contract with Fenerbahçe Istanbul since August 2019 and is a Danish international.

Career

Zanka, the son of a Dane and a Gambier , started playing football at B.93 Copenhagen at the age of four and went through all of the club's youth teams. At the end of 2006, at the age of 16, he made it into the first team of B.93.

In the summer of 2007 he moved to the Danish champions FC Copenhagen and made in September 2007 on the 11th match day of the Danish league against Lyngby BK as a substitute player, his first game in the professional field. On March 16, 2008 Zanka scored on the 19th match day in a 4-1 win in the away game against Lyngby BK with the goal to 3-1 his first goal in professional football. He came in the 2007/08 season to two appearances in the UEFA Cup , from which FC Copenhagen was eliminated after the group stage, and to 13 appearances and one goal in the league game. In the summer of 2012, Zanka moved to the Dutch Eredivisie for PSV Eindhoven . On August 18, 2012 he made his debut for PSV in a 5-0 win on matchday two against Roda JC Kerkrade . He came to one use each in the KNVB Beker and in the Europa League . In the Eredivisie he came to only five missions. PSV Eindhoven were runner-up at the end of the season and had lost the cup final. Furthermore, Zanka came to 16 missions for the reserve team. In the 2013/14 season he came to the professional team in the Europa League and in the league for a total of 13 missions. In the Europa League, the PSV were eliminated after the group stage and in the league, the club finished fourth.

Zanka returned to FC Copenhagen for the 2014/15 season. He was eliminated with the team in the play-offs of the Champions League against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he scored one goal in the first leg. He made five appearances in the UEFA Europa League and was eliminated after the group stage . In the league, Zanka came to 29 missions and one goal; At the end of the season, FC Copenhagen was runner-up and Danish cup winner. In the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, he again won the championship and cup double with FC Copenhagen.

In July 2017, Zanka moved to the Premier League for newly promoted Huddersfield Town and signed a contract that runs until 2020. On August 12, 2017, he made his debut in a 3-0 win in the away game against Crystal Palace FC and prepared the goal to make it 1-0.

After relegation in 2019 with Huddersfield Town to the second division ( Football League Championship ), he moved to the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul in August 2019 at the age of 29 . For the Turks, the Dane was on the field in 16 of 17 first round games and scored two goals.

At the end of January 2020, the defender moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan in the German Bundesliga until the end of the season .

National team

Zanka played for Danish junior national teams until the U21. On November 19, 2008 he made his debut for the senior team in the 1-0 loss to Wales . He came on in the 60th minute for Per Krøldrup . On May 14, 2018, Zanka was nominated by coach Åge Hareide in the preliminary squad of the Danish senior team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . In the round of 16 he scored his first international goal with the goal to make it 1-0 in the first minute of the game against Croatia. The team later retired on penalties. In autumn 2019 Zanka was able to qualify with the team for the EM 2021 .
